I'm sorry Darni I know you've been around longer but with today's display of intellect I think it's time Lazarus took over full time as leader of the Khan Eastside Defence League.

i mean if you want to lose weight what would you do? work out your BMR and then subtract say 500 calories to lose a lb a week (3500 calories roughly equivalent to a lb of fat)

EDIT: probably should say create a deficit of 500 calories

Sports nutrition is not my strong point, but I am trying to gain some understanding.

Ariza has probably stopped the creatine, will lose quite a bit of water weight when coming off a creatine cycle.

That's exactly how weightwatchers does it:yep

When I lose weight I do something a lot different.
From your actual weight, you calculate how many grams of protein you need per day(weight in lbs * 1.5)
From there you divide it into 6 to give you how much protein you need every meal. I match it 1:1 with carbs except after i train where I go 3 :1 and I have no carbs at night.
If I want to put muscle on, I go 4:1 prior to working out and that is really the only change to the diet.

Alex Ariza was on 8count news podcast yesterday and he said he is adding more mass to Khan to gear him up for the move in weight.

Weight watchers does it that way because it is simple for people to understand and fundamentally correct. Calories In > Calories Out = weight gain, Calories in < Calories out = weight loss, this works for most people.

Wow, ESB is fortunate to have so many nutritionist experts in one thread! Aren't we lucky.

I reckon world renowned strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza is doing a tad more than counting calories to get the best performance out of his top class athlete.

Basically its how you do it as well, you cut your calories, if your in a calorie deficit you'll lose weight, if your not you won't. I didn't say how he/anyone should split up their macros. Thats all your doing, as your goal, same as Khans will be is to hold onto as much muscle as possible when you cut so you keep protein high. When I cut I follow a TKD, just have carbs around a work out and then same amount as protein as you (1.5 times my weight in lbs) and about 110+g fat (weight in lbs 0.5). Plenty of different ways of doing bu the basic principle is what Pugilist outlined while I was typing. Depending on your goals you can split your macros to achieve different results.

Really doesn't take an expert to realise Khan doesn't eat 6800 calories a day and can cut 10lbs safely in a week. I'm sure Ariza is doing a lot of things and I'm not trying to make out I'm some kind of expert, just that what was being posted wasn't right

True Pedz, some people seems to think you need a degree in nutrition to know anything about it, you can read also read up on matters without studying for a degree, actually identical to people reading when studying for a degree.
