Not really here to gloat but.... Can't believe Green was the ESB favorite. :blood The man nearly died last year for crying out loud and you know Tarver would be up for whipping the white boy that koed Jones. Thought Green would see the final bell though..eh.
For some reason, on my poor feed, he looked quite a bit bigger than Green. He seemed to pace himself early and was relaxed, steady, and methodical. For the most part, he was able to keep Green backing up, periodically trying to hammer Green when he had him up against the ropes. Towards the end, his started using his uppercut when Green tried to dive in. Near the end of the 9th round, he had Green against the ropes and started wailing on him with 10 - 15 or so punches. On the poor feed, it didn't look that effective and Green "survived" the round, but he was out on his feet. He basically started wandering around, and it looked like he hugged Tarver as if he thought that was the last round or something. When he made it back to the corner, they(Green's corner) did not let him come out for the 10th round.
Because he was scared of Tarver power obviously. And the jab kept him at bay. It's called boxing. Just cause he was able to do it in one round doesnt mean he couldve did it the whole fight. Tarver got his respect in the first round and Green didnt feel to good of the idea to walk into Tarver's punches. (from what I read I'm guessing thats the case)
I was a fan of Green's when I first seen him vs Beyer for the first time and got robbed. But the second fight Beyer took him to school also. Then Mundine embarrassed him then he dominated Stipe Drews for the WBA title at 175 and for some odd reason retired. Then when he came back with the whole Dannyweight thing and things he was the greatest fighter in the world for beating a shot RJJ then trying just to make money off that win fighting bums at his own little weight class he lost me as a fan. Then the whole Paul Briggs thing was a disgrace him even fight Briggs was bull**** so Briggs taking a flop is on him too. Then he finally stepped it up against Flores who I then realized is just a part time fighter and really didnt wanna win but he couldve but I gave him credit for that none the less. But this fight just showed that he wasnt in that class and he was thinking he's some ATG when in reality he's only a B- level fighter..... if that.
Fantastic win for Tarver. Where does he go from here? Retirement? Rematch? A fight with a major cruiser? How would Tarver fare against the other 4 cruiser champs? Could he lure a cruiser champ to Vegas? Or go out to Moscow and try to avenge RJJ? Or back to heavy? Hell, if Tarver is up for it, maybe he should call out Haye. I think rematch or retirement are the most likely....
Unless Tarver looked old or had trouble making the weight there was little chance for Green here. Tarver is simply a higher class of fighter and had the style to take it to Green. I'm a bit surprised Tarver got the stoppage since he hasn't been scoring many ko's the last several years but this was a good win for Tarver. What Tarver does next is going to be interesting. There are a few good cruiserweights and Tarver's name would give him a lot of leverage in negotiations. Him against Cunningham, Huck, Jones, Lebedev, etc are all good fights and ones Tarver could possibly win, I'm skeptical he could beat Cunningham though. Tarver could move to heavyweight and make big money and considering his age and amount of fights left in him that might be his best choice. Obviously both Klitschkos blow him out and guys like Povetkin, Haye, and Arreola are going to be too young and strong for him but, he can hold his own with almost any other heavyweight. I don't think he beats a lot of the better ones but he doesn't get blown away by more than a handful of them.
At this point of Tarver's career I would like to see him move back to heavy, and cash out against on vs one of the Klits, if he loses he could always move back down to fight one of them over rated CW champs.
What the .... just happened?! :huh I was sure Green would win, absolutely sure! Almost as sure as I was for Wlad vs Haye. Very well done Antonio :good
Green was destroyed. He didn't even know where he was! Glad the circus act Green has been put to bed. Tarver smashed him.
Having been stuck on the train commuting to work during the Special Moment, it is my distinct pleasure to share my belated thoughts: :rofl :rofl :rofl You had to know Tarver wasn't just "collecting a paycheck" as some were claiming. :nono He went to the trouble of sweating off a large adult dog for this, and has a steady paycheck from Showtime besides (and thus no reason to go through a camp to just lay down because he "needed" a check). Plus - Antonio is a very proud man and has always been deadly serious and at times delusional about his legacy. Do you REALLY think he would ever put himself in a position to have to come crawling back and show his mug on national television as a commentator with the spectre loomong of having lost to a palooka like Green?? Tarver >>>>>>>>> Green - everyone and anyone ought to have known that. The questions here were about Tarver's ability to burn a lot of fat and still be effective at 42. It was always his show, and his contest to lose if he took it lightly. Which he wasn't going to. :hi:
Good Lord I hope not too. Call me crazy, but I say Tarver stays on the road, and challenges Huck :deal
Btw...:rofl :rofl atsch @ the late-coming "geniuses" who picked Tarver by stoppage...AFTER THE FIGHT WAS OVER. The # of poll respondents jumped since my last screen shot taken right before the main event. Surprise surprise, before the poll closed about half an hour ago the # of people "picking" Tarver by stoppage more than tripled! :gasp It is a bit unmanageable posting from my phone, but later on once at a proper computer I will do a comparison between the pre-fight screenshot and the final poll results. Someone else can do it before then if so obliged. Either way - the guilty WILL be exposed!! There is nothing more pathetic than trying to look smart by cheating on a poll on a boxing forum when you already know the result...and nothing more STUPID tham doing so on a public poll with a set expiration. Prepare for humiliation, ****s/losers/dishonest cowards who did so. :hi:
I will take my lumps like a man... I picked Green by UD and thought even though tarver was a class above, his age and the fight location would screw him over. Wrong again... :-(
