I remember watching the first Bowe fight with my dad on HBO and my dad saying "who is this guy? He looks like Jack Dempsey out there" I had only seen Golota fight once before on Boxing After Dark. I also had forgotten how many legit body punches Golota landed in the second fight he went to the body pretty good for a big man.
Golota is 43 now so he needs to be realistic. I´m sure this ¨comeback¨ is just to get some closure after the Adamek fiasco. I´m not sure what made him come back so soon to fight Adamek after that grotesque arm injury. Probably promoters´ deadlines and tv pressure and him underestimating Adamek. He was out of shape (for his standards anyways), slow and rigid. Worse yet, all of these things started to show up immediately after his last come back against McBride and Mollo. Unless he shows me something different he doesn´t have much chance of beating anyone in the top 10. Golota is likable because he´s so hard to decipher and surprises so many times, in both good and bad ways. He shows flashes of brilliance in the ring and yet has so many flaws and cannot maintain a high level of boxing throughout 12 rounds. He´s a coward who folds or does something stupid at the first sign of trouble and yet he we see moments of bravery. He´s viewed by some as a awkward anti social person and yet many people who know him say he´s a great guy with a good sense of humor. He´s loaded for life and by all intense and purposes he is shot to pieces and yet he wants to continue fighting and competing. He is an enigma. If he had the steady, tough mentality of Adamek, he´d be champ for sure.
Excellent post. Sorry I got on Wolak's case after his fight with D-Rod, but thats how I see things. When I met Pawel, I told him he needs to straighten out his punches & he agreed with me, but still throws too many "hooking" type punches. I like Pawel alot, but I think he's reached his limit to as far as he can go. He certainly is a warrior & I almost couldn't watch the endof that fight with his eye so bad. I really felt bad for him. Anyway, about Golota. He's prob just bored sitting on his Dupa all day & still thinks he can do a George Foreman or B. Hopkins. He needs to really bust his butt to get in shape & maybe he can do something. When you get over 40, it gets so hard to stay fit. Believe me, I've been there & done that. :!:
I still see the light ..... Adamek beats Vitaly by injury, then steals belts from Wlad and rematches Golota .... Golota beat the crap out of Adamek and he is undisputed HW champion anno domini 2012
Most punches Golota threw in those days were a thing of beauty. The body shots were wonderful and gutsy, considering Golota´s history. Even if, Bowe was shot to pieces just a few months after beating Hollyfield, it doesn´t take a boxing expert to notice Golota´s superb technical skills. Short, snappy, thudding straight shots almost always in bunches. It was textbook and it was pretty.
i'd love to see a prime golota versus klit brothers now. That'd be crazy to see him HW champ now haha can't keep a straight face but I'd like to see him bulldoze Haye for a belt, but thats far from over now
He really was beautiful to watch. Too bad about his mental state. If he had the resolve of Adamek, he would have been HW Champ for awhile, for sure.
