With the competition between the 2 teams, the tasks, the rivalries building up etc. it was a good hours TV.
If Prizefighter took a page out of the Contender's book and gave some of the fighters a backstory, a bit of drama- maybe an hour or 30 mins show (with some epic music thrown over the top of course)- it could bring a larger audience in. **** it if Sky showcased their fighters more with a bit more about them maybe more people would emotionally invest in them.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it's original channel dropped it after the first series for budget reasons and whilst another channel picked it up the budget was massively reduced and the TV money men took more of hand than they did in the first series.
No I think you are right. Started off on NBC and the got picked up by ESPN. The format, or at least some parts of it, still have potential though I reckon.
loved the contender, i do agree tho they should invest more time in getting to know the fighters (sky take note)
I was just a fan of watching the big fights until The Contender started. Really made me get into boxing in that my favorite sport football then took a backseat to boxing. Jessie Brinkley was my favourite out of all the series.
its really made me laugh that you have started this thread. A week ago I watched the whole first series again as I stumbled across a clip on youtube. I forgot how good it was. It was one of the main things that got me into boxing. Would love it to come back. The first two series were awesome.
Loved it 100%, even those Rocky-esque fights scenes with sound effects et al Fcking brilliant it was. Got many people into boxing and that's what its all about at the end of the day I still think their is scope for it to return
