It seems that neither one of these guys is capable of beating any very good boxers or punchers....and they seem to be incapable of even being competitive with other top 20-30 HW's in hypothetical H2H match-ups!

So what happens when these 2 meet????

Floyd by TKO. He had the power and speed to get to Norton and hurt him. and eventually stop him.

If floyd uses his underrated body attack then he ends this fight much easier. It probably starts out as chess match with Norton trying to set himself up with the jab, and with Floyd slipping the jab and looking to jump on Norton with combos. Eventually Floyd would connect and hurt Norton

Nah, I think Ken's physical strength and size would be too much for the lovable little cruiserweight. Yes I know, Jose Luis Garcia was not all that big and he beat Ken, but Norton was still green and avenged the defeat. Patterson was explosive but I don't think in general he was decimating too many guys of Ken's size. Norton overpowers him.

Both had suspect chins, I go 100% with Ken Norton though. Patterson was protected by Cus D'amato, Norton fought everyone. He froze in some bouts against big punchers, I can't see Patterson scaring him though. Norton by ko IMO

Norton could handle a smaller guy who's not as strong as he was in the ring....... Norton at his best takes whatever Patty has to offer.....

Norton wins a hard pressed fight with strength and aggression....

We had that one all ready a few times. It´s Patterson every time.

    :thumbsup

Yeah, because the strength and size of Bonavena and Chuvalo were such an obstacle of Floyd ... oh wayt he beat them both when he himself was past it and they were stright in their primes.

Patterson redeemed himself by taking on everyone when beeing past it. And he beat them all - yes he should have gotten both Quarry and the Ellis fight. Much superior resume to Norton. He actually proved he can hang in with bangers of equal or better class than Norton - Johannson, Chuvalo, Bonavena, Quarry - without getting knocked out everytime, he proved he could deal with bigger, stronger fighters and he proved he could deal with skilled fighters - Ali - yes, he lost - Ellis, Moore. Everything Norton brings to the table Patterson already saw and dealt with successfully.

Patterson proved himself as one of the greatest hws of all time. Norton proved himself as one of the best hw contenders of his era.

Floyd's handspeed gives him an early lead. Ken's jab and greater strength levels the playing field after the fourth round,or thereabouts, and he stops Patterson by the time the contest's halfway through.

Out of the two,Norton's chin was better.

I don't buy it either. Even in the defeats against Liston, Floyd was getting up and nearly beat the count.

Patterson was extremely well conditioned and didn't gas. Norton would not be wearing him down. If he could cope with the strength and stamina of Chuvalo and Bonavena, he could deal with that of Ken. Norton's faster than George and Ringo, but he's not faster than Floyd. Neither is a fast enough starter to exploit the tendency of the other to start slowly. I do think Patterson would be under Kenny's overhand right, and inside Norton's hook.

I love this match up. I think we get a close fight that could go either way, i don't think any would win 3 out of 3. If i was forced to pick a winner i think that Floyd's aggression would give him a slight edge.

This would be a great match up. I think the key here is Norton would not freeze up vs Patterson as he wasn't a feared puncher like Foreman or Shavers were.

You're making it seem like these two guys were just a couple of bums.

Norton went 1-2 vs. Ali but most felt he should have got the win in their rubber match. A case can be made that he won the rematch as well... that means a case can be made that he should have went 3-0 vs. Ali!

Norton lost a split-decision to Holmes... a case can be made that he should have won this fight.

Norton also beat Young (close fight) and Quarry (KO5) among others.

Ali x3, Holmes, Young, and Quarry... not too bad regardless of the actual results... imagine somebody going 6-0 vs. this group though, Norton almost did.

Sure, he was stopped in 2 by Foreman... so was Frazier. His KO losses to Shavers and Cooney were at the end of his career. His KO loss to Garcia was before he peaked and it was avenged.

6'3" with an 80" reach and would probably carry about 220-225Lbs. in todays HW division.

Patterson was a great fighter. A bit small for HW but he did well in his era... maybe he would even do good in todays HW division?

6'1" with a 73" reach and would probably be just a little over 200Lbs. in todays HW division.

Patterson went 8-4 (8) in HW World title fights. He was the youngest to have won the HW title when he beat Archie Moore for the vacant title. Since than Tyson has broke that record but not by much. Patterson was also the first 2x HW Champ.

So H2H who wins? It's a tough pick IMO but I'm going with Norton by close decision. I think Patterson had more snap in his punches, especially the left hook, but I think Norton would be able to handle Patterson's power pretty well. Norton is the taller, bigger, heavier, stronger man wit a longer reach and I think he would use his physical advantages well.
