    Good example.

    Did he stay there?

While doing some great things there, is that what he is known for?

Point is, he went where the big fights were. The defining fights.....and the money.

Well Calzaghe came up in weight and dethroned the LHW champ. SMW has had way more legends than CW so your example to begin with was not very good.

SFW being a weight division that has seen Mayweather, Marquez, Pacquiao, Morales, Barrera to name a few.

The example was fine.....bottom line is you can be the best at a certain weight class, but it doesn't mean it gets you top atg status.

As for Joe moving up, he took care of business. It was a long time coming.

Wish he had gone up sooner, and stayed longer.

Yep.....and for the most part, they were just passing by. That's the point.

I can't even tell you who the greatest sfw is. Nobody really puts that much stock in it. Same with Cruiser.....

Being the undisputed best, I would completely disagree. When there is an argument then you are correct.

After reading this your opinion is worthless and most here will agree. Calzaghe better than toney and hopkins? Absolutely not. And he dominaed the americans? we really didn't have too much too offer at supermiddle when joe was reigning other than lacy, who isnt an atg. if joe fought todays supermiddles theres a good chances hes not 46-0 anymore

Undisputed best at smw? Yes, he was, and is IMO. But its a relatively new division with almost no history and wasn't a division of real consequence until recently. Even when JC was fighting there, it, and he, were relatively obscure. He helped put it on the map, which is great for us boxing fans, but he didn't do himself any favors by staying there fighting largely unworthy(for him) opposition over and over.

That is my point. If in 15 years someone passes him, then we may have a different argument.

Having Joe in the top 20, let alone top 10, is absurd. It would take either amazing bias or an amazing ignorance of boxing history to place him so highly.

He was an excellent fighter though and would make my top 100 but not my top 50.

    Don't quite follow you.

Guys can fight at many weight classes and never be the single greatest, or most accomplished at any of them. Being the best at a class isn't a guarantee of greatness.

If you're talking lw, mw or hw, maybe so.....but that's because of the history involved, and because in order to have been the best there you would have HAD to have done great things.

Not so in some of the newer and less prestigious weight classes.
