well ,he dropped ATG pattersons ass in second round....shocking state of boxing in those "old good days"
world heavyweight champion decked by a guy in his 1st pro bout.could you imagine a guy fighting for a title today, bear in mind there are 4 at each weight, that was 0-0?
Two Ton Tony Gallinto was rated number two or three in that fight. Go back and look at Ring Mag's rating. That meant he beat up enough contenders back then to be so rated, and there was but one line of contenders. In spite of his record, he had a run where he was beating up higher rated contenders to be so rated. And He did put Louis on his ass. Way back when when you got to fill a fight arena by having two heavyweight contenders fight each other. They were Main Event Fighters. In the wages were not so Great as today where a contender can get by with one fight against a contender in heavy a year, it was a different time. A contender fought to move up the ranks, fought to hold on to his high position, fought to make some money, to feed him self and his family. If he didn't fight good competition he got dropped in the ratings. The man had to fight his way up to 1 or 2 or sometimes being number 3 was good enough if the champ had beaten the number 1 and 2. You going to pay money to watch the Champ beat up some chump rated 5? He had to fight often, and no one was going to pay good money to see a top ten contender fight some bum rated 15. There was another fight across town or in the next town that one could go to. If you were in NY, there was the fight at the Garden, and 7-10 other good fights going on, where rated contenders were the main event. So contenders fought each other as main event fighters. Not under card of some Micky Mouse belt champion, like today, when contenders do fight a big deal is made out of it....not then.
imagine the criticism Vitali or Wlad would have if they even consider fighting a pro with 0-0.and patterson is ATG according to many its funny that lots of people here glorify those old ATGs ,and in the same time criticizing Vitali Klitschko for cherry picking, talking **** about "week heavy weight division"
