Gavilán in his prime was a total beast, he passed away about 6 years ago and I had the opportunity to see him at his funeral. It was something else seeing that great boxing legend just resting in his casket. :verysad

In the first World Baseball Classic, the Cuban team ( considered amateurs ) defeated many of the so called " professional Teams " from the Majors including Dominican Republic and Venezuela. Not only that but the Cubans made it to the final. :bart

Cuba has been the top Latin Country in the Olympics, PanAm Games and World Cups since 1959. Not only in Boxing but also in Baseball, Track and Field, Women's Volleyball, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Judo, etc etc etc.

So please, don't talk without having proof of what you are saying. :verysad

My friend, let me explain it better for you. Cuba's Black population was about 10% back in the 1950's but it skyrocketed after 1960. Right now, Cuba's Black population ( that includes Blacks and Mulatos ) is between 60 to 70%. This is way higher than Puerto Rico!

 

Never heard of him but there were many Cubans in those times who never won a Title and were beasts. In those times winning a World Title was something very very hard, not like now.
