That's your opinion. But remember that the majority of people thought that Gavilán beat Sugar Ray when they fought. Rumor had it that after the fight Robinson said to Gavilán, " You beat me today ". And Robinson was way better than Benitez... ;)

Gavilán in his prime was a total beast, he passed away about 6 years ago and I had the opportunity to see him at his funeral. It was something else seeing that great boxing legend just resting in his casket. :verysad

Gavilán is the pride of Cuba.

But that's because they haven't made a tournament yet to see if that theory is true. But I have some facts for you ...

In the first World Baseball Classic, the Cuban team ( considered amateurs ) defeated many of the so called " professional Teams " from the Majors including Dominican Republic and Venezuela. Not only that but the Cubans made it to the final. :bart

    Does this disprove your theory?

Yeah but most of those lists are usually pretty **** im not surprised they dont have Rodriguez in there.

They probably have the likes of Dempsey and Foreman in the top ten Like Bert Sugar has if im not mistaken thats how **** some of those lists are.

I have some of Rodriguez fights and theres no doubt he belongs with those guys not only in terms of ability but also in terms of resume.

Hmmm, let me give you the facts...

Cuba has been the top Latin Country in the Olympics, PanAm Games and World Cups since 1959. Not only in Boxing but also in Baseball, Track and Field, Women's Volleyball, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Judo, etc etc etc.

So please, don't talk without having proof of what you are saying. :verysad

You have some good points but remember that this is not possible without talent, and Cuba also shined before Castro in the pro sports like Baseball and Boxing. ;)

Did you ever heard that Gavilán beat Sugar Robinson but they gave it to Robinson? Even Robinson admitted that Gavilán beat him after the fight and Robinson is considered the best fighter of all times. ;)

The word " would " doesn't count. If Cuba's best are ranked higher than those three from PR is for a good reason. Don't hate, just speak facts. ;)

    :rofl:rofl:rofl

My friend, let me explain it better for you. Cuba's Black population was about 10% back in the 1950's but it skyrocketed after 1960. Right now, Cuba's Black population ( that includes Blacks and Mulatos ) is between 60 to 70%. This is way higher than Puerto Rico! ;)

Angel Robinson Garcia was probably one of the greatest fighters to never win a title. He lost very close decisions to Buchanan and Laguna overseas and even gave Duran his toughest fight to date back when he was coming up at lightweight. He fought everybody and if it wasnt for fighting so many great fighter in their backyards, he would have likely got that elusive title shot.

Never heard of him but there were many Cubans in those times who never won a Title and were beasts. In those times winning a World Title was something very very hard, not like now. ;)
