Sounds like Paul Mc Cullough from holy family. He got to the quarter finals at the barcelona games and was one hard lad.
Yes sorry Ardy my mistake but it certainly sounds like him do you remember him fighting.Fearless ******* he was..
Of course, I watched him countless times.I boxed for Sacrad Heart, and went along to the Ulster finals 84 to cheer on Noel Magee against Paul at lightheavy[this was the first time I'd seen him]. He gave Noel a good pasting, but strangely enough Noel went on to win the nationals that same year. You're talking about him being fearless, and that sums him up entirely.A few years later I was in Maguires barber shop in Kings Street, and Paul [by the at time Paul was the Irish heavyweight champion] was getting his hair cut.The Maguires were a boxing family, and the walls were covered in nothing but boxing photos and posters, it was that type of place. Well there had been a lot of talk about a Cuban team coming over and Paul was full of optimism that he could beat the Cuban champion, and in those days Irish boxers didn't beat Cubans. I couldn't help but admire his strenth of conviction, even though I expected him to get absolutly hammered, but the thing is it wasn't bravado with Douglas, as Paul would have fought anyone, anywhere, anytime. I think he fought the Cuban no3 and got beat on points at that event.
Lads a little bit more on hardwick and links to his fights http://www.irish-boxing.com/2011/07/watch-hardwick-fights-here/
Lads, any news on Prizefighter - light middleweight - there should be at least one Irish fighter in that, we have a lot of fighters around that weight that could give Prizefighter a lash - what do you think?
Joe Rea would do well but I doubt they would let him in after the recent losses. I fancy Rea to beat Coyle if they ever fought.
