He started getting haters after his win over Williams, before that everyone loved him but once he started taking the shine of a certain other fighter suddenly he became a bit of an *******.
Not entirely true, he had his come-out party against Williams, in a fight where many picked Williams to beat him. Dazzlin' Darren Barker or whatever his name is, is what made Martinez stock drop. It's almost equivalent of Larry Holmes fighting Scott DeLoux.
The simple fact you've mentioned height is enough to show your continued ******ation. I don't hate Martinez, I've liked the guy since he came to England and destroyed our two best light-middleweights. He's always been very popular with UK boxing afficionados. But someone needs to inject a little reality in regards to him and what he has done (not his ability, which is superb IMO).
Martinez is a great champion, I wish he had the hype and numbers others have. I dont like his choice for Barker though, I would have love to see him vs geale or pirog.
martinez deserves his spot at the top. he, donaire and pac are currently the top boxers now based on talent and accomplishments.
Its because instead of taking on another title-ist, hes just gone for a contender. Barker isn't a good fight even if hes rated 3 by the WBC, 5 by the WBA, 5 by the IBF, 6 by the WBO and currently holds the EBU middleweight title. That is such a disgustingly low level of opponent that any love for Sergio Martinez should be disregard and all should now hate him.
