are you that blind that you can't see that the thread starter was trolling? there isn't a person on this site that genuinely thinks calzaghe is a top 10 ATG. its a thread set up to bash joe calzaghe - simple as that.
Disagree my good man! There ARE fans on here who think Joe is top ten all time. For **** sake there are fans on here who think his resume eclipses Hopkins' which is lunacy. You need to appreciate the amount of people on here who have no serious knowledge of the sport. Calzaghe would make my top 40/50 based on achievement but his resume is the weakest area of his get up! Pure and Simple!
I had him losing to Bhop as well, he might be in my top 100 . . . but personally I would not bother going that far down the list so therefor he does not even register. He cleanly beat 1 ATG in RJJ who should have retired many moons before that fight! He fought in the historically safe SMW division (until recently) and would not stop foot off of Europe for bigger challanges at M and LHW. He is the GOAT at SMW until Ward/Froch/Bute figure out who is the man today and after that he will fade off to obscurity for most fight fans and rightfully so.
My card is in my posting history but from my memory of scoring the fight I too agreed that joe won the first 4. I think in the 4th he suffered a hand injury and from then on he really wasn't effective at all, throwing more shots than reid and landing a lot less. I believe I had it 114-113 but as I said my card is somewhere within my post history if you care to ever dig it out. I'm quite sure I had it 7-5 to reid. For the record I believe joe is much better than reid and the loss was due to injury he suffered, which is why a rematch would have been the right thing. Just so you know this isn't a joe related thing of mine, for me the judges decision is just an interim result until i've investigated further (watched the fight or where this isn't possible read fight reports and rbr) I believe froch beat dirrell and mikel, I believe martinez beat williams and cintron and I have it under good authority that kid gavilan should have a much better resume based off his performances against the men he suffered his official losses to.
Looked at another way, couldn't it be that Hopkins and Jones intentionally delayed taking a fight with Calzaghe until they had a built-in excuse for losing (i.e. age)?
Jasper - Wait there, I've just been discussing this in my thread. Now how was super middle great through out the Benn/Watson/Collins/Eubank era, suddenly **** poor for 10 years while Calzaghe dominated, then suddenly great again? Maybe because Calzaghe was so good he made the division look weak? I also posted proof that Hopkins was to blame for that fight not happening by choosing easier fights for more money. RJJ was just as much to blame as Calzaghe. Collins and Ottke ducked Calzaghe as well.
if you're 15 years old, i'll forgive you for such a bad post. in 2002, clinton woods was seen as a better opponent for jones than calzaghe. he was a nothing during jones' entire reign until 2004. no one ever mentioned joe's name.
Don't forget, Ottke was doing the same thing with the defenses at the same time. How the **** do two guys claim that **** in the same division simultaneously?
I've always been a fan of his. Why don't you elaborate then rather just posting short sentences that equate to just saying "no'". It's no secret the WBO is one of the worst belts a to hold. Their ranking have always been ****, and it's been nearly impossible to unify with another belt when you have the WBO belt.
atsch This is just "hurt feeling" drivel. It wasn't 'suddenly' **** poor. It really wasn't poor at all. Just the opponents Joe defended against, and that blame lays mostly on the WBO for their **** rankings, as well as Joe C being content defending it against overmatched chumps. He was fine defending his belt at hoime, making big money. Can't blame him for doing that, but it is was it is.
no he wasn't, clinton woods has always been thought of as a limited plodder in britain who did amazingly well to win a world title. calzaghe was always considered a vastly superior fighter to woods. if your living in america then you may have a different view but that only highlights your complete ignorance on the matter.
And yet when Woods challenged calzaghe to come up and fight him...what happened to that again? :think
