The two are not mutually exclusive.

The first fight was close and controversial. Anyone who doesn't think the first Holmes-Spinks was controversial, I'm not sure what to say.

There was loads of controversy surrounding that one.

    Fair enough.

What about the rest of my post?

And why pull up m when the chick is posting some of the most inane nonsense ever spouted on the forrum? Do you not have your own opinions?

    IMO, Spinks edged it.

    Close but clear.

The 2nd fight Holmes won, pretty handily.

    Massive controversy IMO.

Regardless of result, Spinks deserves kudos for his effort in both.

The points is not Spinks standing (a guaranteed top 60 P4P ATG IMO) but the fact he's being compared to Ricky Hatton:patsch

Abysmal, you two have no credibility as it is, but now?

Seriously Rumsfeld, from my experiences with you in the Classic I expected a lot more than you for you just to be a cheerleader.

The vast majority scored it for Spinks.

Close, but in hindsight, and forgetting any 'challenger has to take the fight away from the Champion' crap, if that is controversial a lot of fights would be.

That's insanely stupid  Gerry Cooney a big time contender??? He fought 3 times in 5 ****ing years! Maussa might not of been that good, but he was reigning champion at the time coming of a upset win over Vivian Harris. Gerry Cooney was best known for getting outclassed by Larry Holmes 5 years earlier. Your comparrisons are really making the British forum look bad :nut

Who the **** are you calling a cheerleader, bucko?

As a long time fan of Larry Holmes, I'm going to call bull**** when I see it.

You think Spinks deserved the nod and that's fine. You, of course, are entitled to your opinion. We agree that Holmes was clearly ****ed in the rematch.

Regardless, the point I was making was simple - BOTH FIGHTS WERE CONTROVERSIAL.

I took issue with your erroneous claim stating otherwise.

As far as Hatton and the Hall of Fame goes, I stand by EVERYTHING I said on the show.

At the end of the day, I've been to Canastota and I have NO DOUBT, none whatsoever, that Hatton will be inducted and most likely it will be five years from now when he's first eligible.

Does Hatton deserve to get in? I say he's borderline based on accomplishments, but he will certainly be inducted, of this I have no doubt.

I don't give a **** who the majority scored it for. The fact remains, regardless of who YOU had it for, it was littered with controversy.

Hell, just the record thing along brought forth inherent controversy.

Anyone who denies that fight was "controversial" is an imbecile, plain and simple.

Perhaps I'm debating whether it's rightly seen as controversial. Barely anyone scored it for Holmes.

I think I have misunderstood you. I thought you were saying Hatton was good enough to get in because Spinks wasn't that good.

    I apologies.

I stand by what I said above: jenna has misinterpreted my point about Cooney. A former 175lber stopping him was still fairly impressive IMO.

I do not think he was a 'big time contender' :patsch He wasn't even that against Holmes really, a shot-to-**** Ken Norton and hype train aside.

Simple question, who do you think is more deserving of a place in the hall of fame Hatton or Spinks?:think

Edit: Just seen your post where you said Hatton was ''borderline'' in deserving to get in on accomplishments. By that I take it you know Spinks was more deserving and agree with the whole basis of the arguement. Fair enough.

    'reigning champion' as well.

Belt holder is a totally different thing BTW and I'm strict about that. You should know that before you try getting in a serious debate with me. In terms of their relative danger to each opponent, they're both similar.

BTW Rumsfeld, I also think Hatton is a dead cert' to get in Canastota, I just don't think it necessarily means he's of the same quality of Spinks :good

Though 'If Barry McGuigan can get in there....' would've been a more appropriate point of reference IMO :yep
