yeah i think this is the main point. if this was on sky, it wouldn't be ppv. primetime have dropped a bollock here if they think that they can sell this.
This fight would be an Epic Fail on PPV over here. It will be on at stupid o clock and doesnt involve a domestic fighter. The figures would be shocking
looks like golden boy have been able to come to a deal with primetime and all their shows from now on will be on the channel. the good thing about this is that there will be alot more top quality boxing available, remember we never got ortiz vs berto and under this agreement we would in the future. bad point is obviously that it will likely be on PPV, the cost of the PPV hasn't been detailed yet but if it comes at £14.99 then it will fail, if they market it well and actually provide it at £4.99 i think alot of people would buy it and primtime would be success. also they could offer 12 month deals at a fixed price for all golden boy PPV's but not khan, say £30 for a years subscription of the boxing which again would be great for them. hopefully they get guerrero vs maidana which will be another FOTY contender and this would help primetime hype the boxing alot.
I usually lurk on here but the possibility of this whole scenario coming into effect has pissed me off enough to make my first post. Firstly, whilst i'm not the greatest fan of Sky Sports, you cannot deny the coverage is second to none. SS has been good for boxing and the decision taken a short while back to make less events PPV should have been one applauded by all. Subscribers have been ripped off enough over the years and even if you have gripes over which events are made PPV the fact that there are less of them (especially at 4/5am) can only be a good thing. I think competition is good for boxing but I cannot and will not support Primetime. Not whilst it supports a fighter who is arrogant enough to believe even his tune-up fights should be PPV. Most certainly not whilst it also takes free-to-view events like the 'Star Power' one with Mayweather-Ortiz (assuming this is not a rumour) and makes it a PPV event without HD. I'll stick to my HBO stream and won't be supporting the channel in the future. Just my stance on the matter.
Maybe GBP flexing their muscle. All they need to tell Floyd is it will be on PPV in the UK and he'll get a cut of each £15 PPV.
Would 3 times as many people buy it at £4.99 though? I doubt it. A tenner maybe more realistic but even then they'd need 50% more buyers just to get even. It's gonna turn into one of the things where the income will be solely down to the demand of a fight. If it gets only 5,000 buys at £15 then that's still £75,000. Would Sky stump up that figure for the rights to show it on a normal sky channel? What would be the point in them doing so. Nobody subscribes to Sky Sports in the hope that a big fight will get on a regular sports channel at 4am. Unfortunately I believe a Mayweather-Ortiz ppv over here will sell well enough for it to happen :-(
It don't get more reliable than that:yep If true, expect more GBP fights to be on Primetime as they are still pissed at SKY over the McCloskey affair.
if its 15 squid for a fight we otherwise would have got for free on sky subscription....and at stupid o clock - its gona bomb
If anyone Sky are the amateurs, telling people to watch the Haye fight in a Pub...on twitter! Hyping up the Haye fight, supporting W@rren for so long and his shitty cards. It's about time someone gave them a run for their money. Khan single handedly will bring down Sky PPV if he sticks with Primetime. mark my words.
If its on primetime I aint buying. Would rather wait a few hours and download a version which actually looks good on my tv.
Who pays £15 a month to just watch a fight. The £15 is well worth it as we get everything else other than boxing.
