Of course people know who Pacquaio is and Mayweather, two guys that defeated Hatton.

I read the papers, when Kim Kardashian was being mentioned before she was famous over here I never knew who the **** she was, Jersey Shore wtf?

You have to get out there to get recognised.

well who put the money up in the past? If it worked in the past and still works in Germany, why not here ?

Fury/Chisora got 2 million plus viewers, it's been in the press, people are talking about it. That proves my point. Put boxing on, people will watch it.

I think it's right to put the blame on subscription tv. Forget the money side of the argument, the fact is boxing is less popular because it's not on free to air. Those setanta figures are a **** take by the way, totally awful.

I have no idea how much it would cost, but throwing a UK fight involving as an EXAMPLE say Mat Hatton and Ortiz straight onto Primetime. The winner or shall I say Ortiz ;) could then do the PR rounds on chat shows etc

Using the UK fighter as a means to promote the foreign based fighter and raise his profile domestically for future fights would work, Khan>America

So the winner infront of maybe 40,000 ppv views tops and maybe a page in the newspapers(if youre lucky) would then get a slot on a tv show with other 2million viewers? I dont know about that.

How did someone who has no recognisable talent get so famous? The papers will only pay attention to a fighter if A) He is doing great things in the ring Mayweather/Pacquaio and/or B) If he is famous or infamous out of it

Mayweather is rich and famous because he has both bases covered

Maybe Ortiz could date some chick from Eastenders who knows, the tabloids in this country would lap that up

Germany has its own market which is totally different to the UK and US.

Even so I would argue the money the Klits make from RTL is way less than what they would earn if they were actually liked in America and it was HBO paying them.

Your talking about the past when subscription tv in the UK was in its early stages and even then it didnt take long for Eubank for instance to go where the money was with Sky. Naseem Hamed made a fortune fighting on sky.

America has had subscription tv and PPV way before the UK had it and the big fights 15 - 20 years ago were not on FTA tv over there.

Lennox Lewis gave his first fight v Rahman to the BBC. Now the BBC gurantees way more viewers than Sky but the next fight his back on PPV. Money talks in this game and always will do. If Terrestrial TV puts up the money required then we may see some changes but this is never going to happen.

Have you seen some of the guests that appear on chat shows over here. Not that I watch them much, but the viewers don't really care as long as they're entertained and the guest is charming. Who they are or what they're famous for alot of ppl won't know before the show ,but after they will.

Right so 'Ace' I'm struggling with this point......

How does another PPV channel help break up the monopoly that Sky holds, thus benefiting 'me' the customer?

All that this means in my opinion is that I'm now going to have to fork out evn more to be able to watch poor cards.

I didnt buy Setanta because it was like an extra 10/15 per month, so why would I pay to watch a poor card at 10/15 (A SHOW!!).

You genuinely are mistaken if you think Sky are going to suffer in the long run. The only people who will suffer (if what you say becomes true) is us, the customer. Sky's deal with the PL alone means it will always operate at a huge profit. All they'll end up doing is putting less money into the sport we love and channel those funds elsewhere.

Also if Floyd fights Khan I'm pretty sure he has a deal with Sky so they'll just do business with him and Khan will end up losing out big time.

There is a big difference between thinking sum1 is charming and then paying 15quid to watch them on tv box. The Saturdays are fit and charming but I wouldnt go out and buy one of their cds for a tenner.

I give up explaining why. Better cards>more competition.

Never said BskyB will lose out, it would be a drop in the ocean for them as a whole, but Sky PPV will and more importantly other UK fighters by Khan not being showcased on Sky.

Khan whenever on Sky was promoting the name of other less well known fighters by them being on his card, thats how it works. With him out the picture, and no real PPV fighters in the UK, it will be harder for other fighters to get noticed.

GBP will be promoting their fighters over here with Primetime, they clearly have more of a talent pool than say W@rren, he'll suffer by not being able to fool us with shitty cards as Sky will demand more quality opponents.

More competition for the fans equals better cards, I buy PPV as single fights so I don't take into consideration the cost of my Sky subscription, that would remain the same whether I bought a PPV or not

I'm willing to pay a higher price if the boxing I see here in the UK is of a better quality.

    I'm out.

Groves vs JDG was PPV worthy, thanks Sky.

Letting Khan call the shots and put together the undercard and select his opponent in the UK is pretty much doing exactly what I worry about - NO CONTROL ala Fwank Wowwen

    Khan vs McCloskey + **** undercard = £15
    Khan vs Judah = £15
Khan vs Morales TBC = £15

How many of those would Sky have put up as PPV? Good Value for boxing punters? NOPE.

    Thank god for the Guru!!

Regardless of who puts the show on, it's a subjective opinion on if it's good for you or not as a punter to buy it.
My opinion is the above fights don't warrant PPV fees and I won't pay for them.

At the end of the day, anyone arguing that diluting the PPV pool with more PPVs that even sky won't charge for is a benefit to us the fans is clearly not a millionaire or has a vested interest on the whole thing.
