They will look up Kid Gavilan on boxrec and then point out that he has losses on his record whereas Calzaghe has none and then come out with some tedious drivel like "there is no blue print for beating super Joe" or "46 have tried and 46 have failed" and so on.

Sadly they will judge him by his losses without considering context. Same way they judge joe by his wins without considering context.

    Lunatics, the lot of them.

Who should Calzaghe have fought then that was willing to fight him?
Jones was at HW before Calzaghe had beaten Mitchell
Hopkins wouldnt fight Calzaghe, that is very well documented
Calzaghe was a SMW and beat Americas 2 best SMWs of his era, won all of the titles and became the greatest of his division, so who was there to fight him that he avoided?

Why do you keep bringing up Duran? What is that about. You were going on about Calzaghe fighting W Klitschko who is over 70lbs heavier and over half a foot taller. What is that about. You say how Duran went up all these weight divisions but fail to mention how Duran turned pro at 16 compared to Calzaghe who turned pro at 21. Do you not think people get bigger when they get older :patsch. When Calzaghe was 19 he was a WW, lighter again when 16, so in your weird logic Calzaghe from 19 to when he retired went up 4 weight divisions. So these a silly comparisons making you look like a bias hater
    Prior to Calzaghe Kessler beat
    Beyer WBC champ
    Siaca WBA champ
Mundine who was a former world champ and became champ again after Kessler beat him
After losing to Calzaghe, Kessler has beaten
    Froch WBC champ
    Sartison now WBA regular champ
Dubace hates it that Calzaghe beat Hopkins. Keeps him awake at night

You say Calzaghe was protected early in his career but look at The Rings 1998 ratings

Calzaghe beat #3 Woodhall, #5 Brewer, #6 Reid. Note the rest that Calzaghe beat the fighter that KOd #1 Liles, #4 Ottke wouldnt face Calzaghe and #7 Tate pulled out at late notice against Calzaghe and retired

Twas mag who made a comparison between duran and joe :patsch

I just pointed out how foolish such a comparison was.

And madmanc, i've seen you put joe as high as top 3 atg. I no longer need to address you.

We've been over this before, you and I. You know I think Calzaghe should have moved up to lhw long before he actually did. Bigger fights, money, prestige, challenges. He waited 9 years to unify, then finally moved up for 2 fights.

It's not really about who he may or may not have avoided....or avoided him, it is about what he actually did or didn't do.

In relation to the challenges that Duran took on, which is what my post was about, I'd hardly equate fighting exclusively in one weightclass, exclusively for one marginal belt, for the lion's share of a career then moving up to fight 2 past prime stars hardly equates with what Duran did. That's not even taking into account the level of competition.

I know that, but I was making the point that HAgler stayed in one division for his entire career. I didnt say Hagler could go up to SMW at all did I. Point is Hagler isnt critisied for not going to LHW and shouldnt be
