This is one of my favorite earlier Tyson fights. Gross is now serving life in prison for murder. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5ONcIEmnT8&feature=related[/ame]
"He will be eligible for parole in 2009." my favorit tyson fight is [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=958Jz4yTy3A[/ame] damn Thomas is so ****ing underrated...damn
I tend to think the fix was in on that bout. The under/over was 3/4 rounds, and Tyson could of won inside two if he wanted...
Kevin Rooney had this one fighter by the name of Ricky Meyers who used this style back in the early 90's.
A lot of people bet under, knowing Pinky's troubles, and Tyson seemed on the way to a convincing win inside two rounds, then started to take it easy. I always wonder... But like you suggest, it probably is nothing.
Abraham does not use the peek-a-boo style. His complete high guard defeats the entire purpose of the style. Cotto seems like a weird mention.
Yep, it's not just the peek a boo. Well said. Drynchianian (Spelling) is the last guy who really fights small. And he's beyond open and wide with his "crouch" fighting style.
I agree with this in a sense. I think the peek-a-boo style requires so much agility and explosion. Guys like Patterson and Tyson seemed made for it in a sense. To be able to counter, rush forward in a controlled elusive matter requires speed and reflexes. Fighters that fought out of a more defensively rooted stance like the crouch who are far less explosive in terms of their reflexes and head-movement would be much much more suited fighting out of a crouch style. Guys like Marciano and LaMotta. They would not be able to fight as effectively in a peek-a-boo style in my opinion. It's not quite a question of what style is better. It's just they're different. Someone like Dempsey seemed fairly balanced almost as a half-crouch to explode and still elude, although he did it just with a real low guard.
I agree with Mendoza. Fighters with the type of body that Mendoza mentioned are best suited for that style. Plus you need good reflexes with explosive speed which is why this is a rather difficult style to adopt even if you fit the style physique wise.
Lomachenko is an amateur and he's got a peek-a-boo style going on. very interesting fighter to watch.
the style isnt for everybody . it was perfect for a short heavyweight like tyson. For the majority of boxers, they wouldnt want to solely rely on it , but they could incorporate aspects of it into their defense. I think head movement / slipping in general is a bit of a lost art. Pacquiao is one of the few guys currently who does it pretty well.
