Brian Magee vs Barboza for WBA interim title 30/07

    Just seen this on Boxrec. Apparently Magee is fighting in Costa Rica for the interim WBA super middleweight belt this Sat. This is his opponent:

    I've never heard of this guy, hes ranked 107th by Boxrec. He's been stopped down at 154 and beaten by unknowns. Magee has only lost to top guys.

    Has anyone heard anything about this or Barboza?

    its a WBA card in Costa Rica. They just want local fighters fighting for WBA titles. Bull**** title, terrible opponent but at least should get Magee a good ranking. Setanta are televising it over here, dunno if premier are showing it in the uk

    Are the WBA Costa Rican or something?

    Was going to make a thread about this.

    The WBA aren't Costa Rican but they're annual convention is in Costa Rica this year.

    So this Barboza fella who's main fought around the LMW limit suddenly finds himself ranked no.5 by the WBA at 168! :nut

    Two fights ago Barboza was stopped by Jose Pinzon at LMW. Pinzon in turn was recently stopped by Pawel Wolak and Wolak is no more than a fringe top 10 contender at LMW.

    Ridiculous that the WBA title is vacant yet there are both title fights and interim fights scheduled. Ridiculous that this Barboza is getting a shot at an interim title. **** the WBA.

    WBA is Panamanian. They're having a convention in Thailand in November too so expect some WBA 'title' fights over there too.
