A belt is a belt. What matters is the man wearing it. All belts are insignificant until somebody good wears em'.
No. NOT in MMA. In the UFC. See this is the problem with UFC fans. A ton of misinformation. The UFC is NOT MMA. It's just another promotion that is part of the sport. It's not a league. It's a promotion much the same as DKP or GBP. It does what is best for its OWN interests and that is the crux of the point that you have completely missed but somehow think that's in the best interest of the fighters.
I didn't vote cuz I think all belts are shitty but The Ring. Other than that they're just something to flash around uncasual boxing fans
It's the boxers that give the belt significance, not the other way around. You would have to judge them individually.
I'm an MMA fan first and foremost. I do not like what UFC has done in the world of MMA in terms of their domination. I prefer Strikeforce (because of the co-promoted events they did with DREAM) over UFC. Now I know SF is slowly dying.
The WBA easily. The Super title is nothing but a ploy to get more sanctioning fees. The WBA HW title has been complete farce for about the last decade. Having Ruiz, Holyfield, Valuev, Chagaev, etc the same guys fighting over and over again.
As it stands, today, WBO has Some of the world's best boxers as their champions. Now mind you, sole champions, not sharing the title with 3 other men from the same organization. The list? Jorce Arce, Nonito Donaire, Wladimir Klitschko, Marco Huck, Timothy Bradley, Many Pacquao, Juan Manuel Marquez etc WBA has JMM competing with 2 other guys for a top spot in their own rankings. The only thing saving WBA is Andre Ward.
Yes but what if you were given a unique opportunity to get rid of one of the belts for good. Which one would you want gone the most?
I said WBO because of how little time it's been around for but the WBA has had way weaker champs in the past 10 years or so.
See, we are becoming slaves to tradition, like i mentioned earlier. Same as people continue buying a brand because its been around longer and yet forget that the new brand is better quality. Kinda like Tyson still gathering a crowd, just because of his name, even in his fight with Mcbride.
I agree, tradition has it's place and we need it as perspective but in this case I was wrong in voting WBO, WBA has been way weaker in the past decade or more.
