I'm making this thread because I can't ever remember anyone here referring to VK's counter punching ability.

I never really thought about Vitali as a counterpuncher(until now, and after a bowl hit), but that's exactly what he is. He iniates the combat most of the time and feints that left jab until his opponents throw a left-right and then he clubs over top of those punches(and does it very well I might add). He keeps his distance and waits for a mistake from his opponent.

I'm not saying he's only a counterpuncher, because he isn't. He'll throw a variety of punches:jabs, uppercuts, right-crosses, straight-right, and in combination, but then he'll back off for the retaliation and then counter. Speaking of his arsenal, body punches are his weakest area. Golota could give him lessons for days.

I guess one could consider VK a secondary counter puncher but coupled with his "gonna get you" offense, makes him one of the best in the world.

he's a patient, calculated stalker who waits for his opponents to make mistakes and capitalizes on them whether the mistake is to throw a punch that leaves you open or get caught against the ropes with your guard in the wrong place.

I think the GOLOTA of 1996 chops VK to the ground. AG was a much better boxer techically. And when he loaded up, ppl went down.

That would have been some fight!:bbb

No, I agree he is a good counter puncher and his skills get underrated. I think hes better than Wlad, he has good combinations and good angles and his defense is pretty good, he is really hard to hit clean. He slips and counters all the time.

The arreola fight is beautiful to watch, arreola can barely touch him and he schools the living **** out of him and makes him cry like a *****. His output/stamina/activity is great for his age too.

Golota had a genuine fear when fighting black fighters. He was also good against taller fighters. I believe 1996 Golota would have a decent chance, seriously.

Its faints and his lean back style that he gets his guy to miss and get out of balance and then makes him pay for it..... it is counter punching but he gets them to do what he wants then counters them...if that makes sense

Because he is so awkward/tall people don't realise (if at all) how good a counterpuncher he is.

What a nightmare it must be to get on the inside when fighting Vit. That left starts out as a jab but if you move in then it turns into a strange looking hook that comes from every possible angle. If you manage to get past that then there is a straight right or right hook for your trouble. Then trying to land on Vit is hard cause he leans back plus he doesnt seem overly concered about getting hit nor should he be.

    Poor Adamek

and even worse for Adamek... Vitali has a lot of respect for him as a fighter.... so vitali will be ready for anything Adamek has and will not underestimate him
