Is Wladimir Klitschko unfairly advantaged over his opponents?

In the lower weight classes 10-20 lbs is a big deal. Superior skills, speed and agility only go so far to negate it. This is why Pacquaio avoids Martinez, unless Martinez is willing to drain to welterweight.

If most boxing fans agree with the above then why don't they agree that if a boxer has 30 lbs in weight and 3 inches in height and reach then that constitutes a real advantage? An advantage that (all other factors being equal) is hard....or almost impossible to overcome?

The goal is promoting fair fights--better fights. Divide heavyweight into 2 or 3 weight classes and you'll get more fights between guys who are roughly the same size.

 

100% on point. Bigger dudes do have an advantage, but skill comes with it. Not to mention these are HW so that height advantage can also be nullified with an opposing weight advantage.

they r big dudes but its their talent that separates them from the rest. when do they ever come in bad shape? never. heavyweights take note

 

well maybe the reason he doesn't have super fast hands or insane head and upper body movement is because he's like ****ing 6'8'' and he has one of the best trainers in the history of boxing, so yea, we would see what would happen if he was like 6'2'' he's athletic and not a fatass, so he'd probably be fighting at 168 or LHW :deal

And, as Chef said, the Klits aren't as tall as they are often said to be.

 

I heard no complaints about Lewis fighting shorter opponents. Did not hear any complaints about Ali fighting Quarry who was 5 feet 10 inches tall, hope, nothing until The Klitschkos won the titles are clearing out the division. So many jealous children...........

 

Unfair advantage? There's no such a thing in the heavyweight division, which is unlimited for a reason.

yes it is unfair in that it will be hard for guys to beat him. No way a 6-3 220 pound Vlad or Vitali are as effective.

 

I give Lamar 6-8, but not 6-10
