honestly,do anyone think sky give a flying **** about a couple of PPV a year, they have every sport on the planet tied up,boxing is probably near the bottom, and greedy ****ers like the khans, who WANTED the moclosky fight on PPV when sky knew it was not worthy,****ed khans boys(ladys) off, some of you boys are deluded, khan and his crew will be kissing skys ass in a fight or 2,mark my words and every ****er on here, apart from the 5 or 6 who wanna bum the young lad, stalkers, the 5 or 6 of you:thumbsup
even after sky dropped the first PPV fight, Khan and his team still went back to sky asking for another PPV slot.
Isn't all this just politics playing out. Audley ****s up boxing on terrestial tv by conning the BBC. ITV reenter with Froch and Khan, but as soon as their profiles rises they leave for money. Setanta promise much but over extended themselves and crashed and burned. ITV withdraw from boxing leaving Mick Hennessy out in the cold. Amir Khan insisting on ppv for Salida, Prescott, ***an. David Haye's Audley ppv and some of FW ppvs leave viewers and Sky ticked off. Future sky ppv will have to justify themselves. Khan/McCloskey fight an buildup, cancellations, no opponent change of opponent fiasco cause sky to reject ppv. Khan/GBP get the hump and hastly arrange deal with primetime with promise of more. GBP using primetime to flex their muscles to sky and Mick Hennessy utilises primetime's terrestial network channel 5 to broadcast Tyson Fury and a potential new boxing medium emerges. And the age old boxing story of greed, money, power and politics continues much as it always has. Sky sports
Sky could decrease what they spend on boxing, but they could NEVER pull the plug completely. This isn't the BBC. As a subcription network, Sky are more accountable to their subscribers. Boxing has become a niche sport but still has a substancial enough audiance who would be pissed.
So is this gonna be what happens now Primetime picking up cards we get for a free and putting them on PPV? I won't be buying them even if it is mayweather who I love to watch,I'd rather watch it on HBO as I'm sure most will so with a bit of luck it bombs bigtime. @Lazarus I know you hang off khans dick which is upto you,but how is it great news for GBP cards not to be on sky for free? You won't buy them on Primetime you don't even buy all Khan PPVs?
Primetime shouldn't charge 15 quid for this fight, hardly anyone will buy it. No domestic fighter involved and I doubt Ortiz or Mayweather will push the fight in the UK.
Goldenboy got very petty with their argument of 'if you dont put Khan on PPV then we wont give you the other fights etc'. Sky did the right thing at the time, to protect their already battered image. The ybadly needed to reign in these crappy PPV offerings and they should have really done the same to Wazza with his Degale-Groves PPV. The only Mayweather fight I am interested in is versus Pacman. I couldnt care less about Ortiz-Mayweather at 4am even if it is free. I will watch it on youtube if I hear it was a good fight. Primetime are a good addition to the mix, they bring choice, we wouldnt have got Froch earlier SS fights if it wasnt for Primetime. Their potential synergy with Channel 5 is very interesting and really, the likes of ITV should have stepped in to do something similar. The smart thing to do here is for the Mayweather-Ortiz fight to get aired on C5, not Primetime, with a repeat screened at an early evening slot the following day. The casual fan doesnt give a **** about Goldenboy's stable and if they dont want to do business with Sky if Khan gets himself a superfight with Mayweather, they are cutting their own throats.
read the thread title again........... its not april the 1st..... mayweather will never fight anywhere else on uk screens appart from sky. imagine the kick off when primetime **** up and cant even show floyd's fight.... he wouldnt even entertain being on ****ing primetime.
So to recap No domestic head liner (Crolla does not count) Obscure Channel No HD.(I'm prehistoric, I don't give a fcuk but lot of people do) On at stupid o'clock (Vegas fights are typically after 4am) £14.99 (likely) PPV for an event that would normally be 'free' on Sky Mayweather doesn't get 'fluffed' on SSN as he has done the last couple of times he has been over Conclusion This content is protected
Too much about tv channels and not enough about boxing. If an event is big enough it shouldn't matter what channels it is on. If Khan fought Mayweather the event would be bigger than the channel. Anyone saying they,d pay 1 company but not another to see it is crazy. It's like saying you,d watch a fight on the BBC but not if it was on ITV. Sky are big big players, and have a well oiled machine. Primetime are new and trying to establish themselves, but the signs are promising. In an ideal world all boxing would be free to air but this isn't Germany so in reality we have to pay. Whether it's a monthly subscription or a one off ppv. The way we fans can benefit here is if the Primetime C 5 model follows Saturday's offering then we always got a free to air card to compliment ppv, then at least we get some free boxing. I've heard the Fury v Chisora figures delighted people at 5 and they want to follow up with more boxing programming to compliment live fights. That sounds pretty positive.
