Should Roy Jones get full credit for beating John Ruiz???

    Honestly for those who remember John Ruiz, he was never talented at all his tectics were mostly jab jab clinch. His only advantage against Jones would have been his strentgh and weight which wasn't allowed to be used by Jay Nady. Nady was even warning him about the body shots calling them low blows. Honestly I think Jones tried to cheat his way into greatness by defeating probably one of the worst heavyweight champions in history. I believe he doesn't deserve credit or recognition for this.

    Obviously Ruiz wasn't a good champion but still, it was a good win for Jones IMO.

    more revisionist history by the chumps on these boards. it was the ring magazine event of the year. jones doesn't get the credit he deserves because he made it look easy.

    it was a good win but not really something which makes a fighter great. Sort of like when Hearns beat Andries. A great fighter winning a title in a higher weight class, but Ruiz or Andries were not great.

    On March 1, 2003, Ruiz was contracted to fight Roy Jones, Jr., who at the time was the undisputed world light heavyweight champion.     yes, ruiz wasn't the greatest opponent but winning a belt at heavy was a huge accomplishment from someone who started their career at jr. middle. can you imagine the credit calzaghe would get if he had moved up and won a belt at heavy?

    I don't think beating Ruiz is that great even if the guy is moving up in weight.

    the way jones beat him makes you think it's not great. he made ruiz look terrible. ruiz had wins over holyfield, rahman, golota, mccline and oquendo. they were all ugly to watch but it's one of the better resumes at heavy in the past few years.

    Why didn't he fight one of the Klitschko's or Lewis?? or Byrd. He choose the weakest champion it's bull****.
