Should Roy Jones get full credit for beating John Ruiz???

holyfield was fighting much bigger and better opponents regularily , the weight is not that significant when you compare it to holyfield, he also fought toe to toe

 

Margo? You mean the Margo that was out of the Picture completely at any weightclass, who had one fight against a bum prior to a long suspension? That win was greater than fighting the current reining and defending WBA champ, however ugly a style and boring he was? That's ******ed. His win over Cotto sure, but Margo? **** no. Jones deserves full credit for that fight and that title. He will ALWAYS go down as the a former WBA heavyweight champion no matter how you wanna break it down. Yall Musta forgot!!!!

 

Let me correct you, Ruiz was not a fun fighter to watch, However when you beat guys like Holyfield, Johnson (especially a better version than VK fought) Rahman (Former two time HW Champ) Fres Oquendo these are not just bums here these are real ****in fighters... when you can accomplish that even though your not eye pleasing that does not make you NOT a Good Champion.....

This was a solid win for Jones when nobody else could seem to solve the ruiz puzzle Jones did...... Credit the man cus its mother ****in due.

Regardless of what you thought of Ruiz, he was very effective at using what he had to win. No other HW at the time had an easy win over Ruiz.

 

It doesn't prove Jones greatness. Easily defeating James Toney was good evidence of greatness.

Ruiz was one of the worst beltholders in heavyweight history. Just dreadful.

 

Norm Stone would have done better than Ruiz on the night, that guy is full with fire and mongrel!!

Ruiz did not have much power and didn't fight aggressive. He was like Jones 175 pound opponents, just a little slower. Why wouldn't Roy win? Ruiz was made for him. Jones fought him like he did all of his light heavyweight opponents. Using handspeed and fast reflexes. Ruiz did not have the power to turn the fight around with one punch, it was easy to predict this fight. Then later Toney beat Ruiz. Ruiz was not a great heavyweight.

 

The ref helped Jones, but Ruiz was nothing anyway, Hell Tua kocked him out withing seconds! Jones should have fought Vitali and Vlad...........

 

To be fair to James Toney - James did better against Ruiz than Roy did. Toney went toe to toe with Ruiz, whooped his ass bad and knocked him down in the process. I know it doesn't really count, because Toney got caught with roids, but still...

And it wasn't a one- of HW stunt by Toney. Toney went toe to toe with other HWs like Holyfield, Sam Peter or Hasim Rahman, though with mixed results, but I don't think Roy could have done that.
