Did Marvin Hagler Duck Herol Graham?

No mention of criticism, just pointing out the fact that he ducked Herol.

I don't think Hagler did any real sort of avoiding until the last year or so of his career, much like Lewis. They knew they were at the end of the career and wanted the big money legacy defining fight. Hagler wanted Leonard and Lewis wanted Tyson. Their attention was fully on them and maybe a couple of legit fighters were forgotten. Not ducked or avoided but more forgotten about.

Are you implying that it was a lucky shot? I'm sorry, mate but that's nonsense. Nunn was something else at the time. He set him up on the blind side and walked Sumbu into that shot. Let's not make out like he was some underdog who got lucky with a sunday punch. I've heard this view regurgitated a few times on here. At that level there's no such things as lucky punches.

It's like saying Martinez got lucky against Williams.

 

I wouldn't say he ducked him, Hagler was looking for bigger money fights IMO

Where do you place the likes of SRR (or do you not include him as a MW?), Greb and B-Hop?

 

Robinson fought most of his career at MW and beat some incredible names. I think you can argue he's in the top three.

He was better than the vast, vast majority of British world champions. Yet I don't think he was the best never to win a title.

And it's extremely doubtful that Hagler ducked him.

if anyone deserved that big payday after years of toil, yearning for respect then Hagler was that man.

 

Slip, for the last time, I've never said it was lucky. It is just totally out of character for Kalambay and not indictative of his whole career.

Which is why, when everyone brings it up, I have to state it: it is not how Kalambay should be judged :good

Not a slight on Nunn, I agree he was ace for those few years. In fact, last time you pulled me up on it, it was in a post where I was explaining there is NO such thing as a 'chance blow'

 

Subjective so these can be in any order really (IMO) all closely matched with different qualities in terms of reign/opposition (for example; Hagler took on some awkward, beastly characters; Monzon more rounded, athletic types; B-Hop consistency and application rather than mind-blowing resume at the weight, it really is 'what you like'@160 IMO)

Ray Robinson has to be top 5 IMO, as I say? Any order of the top 4 (or 3 if you're excluding Greb) is completely feasible. Luis Manuel Rodriguz and Benvenuti are both top 10 fighters as well, with Giardello pushing hard to force his way into the top bracket.
