He's not slurring to me, but he's been boxing since he was a young lad. Even the slickest of the slicksters can be punch drunk if you've spent most of your life in the ring. Look at Wilfred Benitez, despite being a master at defense, the guy has a hard time speaking, and I'm not even sure if he can walk anymore. Chalk that up to fighting at a young age. Meanwhile, a guy like George Chuvalo (or Foreman) can speak fine, despite their defensive deficiencies. It's because they started boxing late.
I think if Mayweather himself or anyone around him suspected that he was even starting to get a bit punchy, he'd have retired already. He loves himself too much to continue on and risk further damage. But that's obviously not the case, he's just a lazy speaker.
The thing is, most damage takes place during training. Even young kids show signs of brain damage on an MRI. He's been sparring and boxing for over 25 years, the gym work also has an effect. Having said that, I can't tell a difference in his speech.
Agreed. He just sounds a little horse. However, this faceoff was done after the L.A press conference and a bunch of interviews.
How is it even possible, floyd only took 2 real shots since coming back and on the other hand you have roy jones getting ktfo on a regular basis and sounding normal. Floyd sounded normal to me.
I don't see it myself but the fact that Floyd doesn't get hit much in fights is irrelevant. Sparring is where the damage is done.
I see it like this too. If anything Floyd's speech is improving. Don't know what the hell the TS is thinking.
All of that sounds like Floyd. But I couldn't help but notice at the face-off that he actually shut his mouth a couple of times. Is Floyd actually growing into a mature, real-world adult?.. Nah.. probabaly not.
I didn't really notice anything, but you don't have to be in a lot of wars to suffer some neurological damage. Some fighters get it from sparring, like Terry Norris (whose chin prevented him from taking sustained beatings in fights). With others, it could be a long amateur career. George Foreman had over 80 pro fights and certainly took his share of blows to the head from big HWs, but his speech is clear, even though I don't want WTF he is talking about half the time. Every body/brain is different.
