Khans Manager "I believe Sky are coming out of the Pay Per View Buisness"

The thing with pay per view is that unless it completely bombs they'll always make a profit. Mick Hennessey obviously made more from going on an internet stream with Froch v Taylor than any TV broadcaster was prepared to pay and carried on making more when Froch went to Primetime.. the same reason Khan has gone there now.

But Sky's problem with doing too many pay per views is that it isn't there only business. They have millions of customers to satisfy and have had thousands of complaints from many of their Sky Box Office bills over the last 2/3 years. It probably isn't worth the hassle and potential backlash to keep guaranteeing Amir Khan PPV just because he thinks that's what he is.

    :good

what it will probably mean for a while, is that british fighters will jump to the states earlier because the sky PPV, coupled with the sky sports news advertising, golden goose isnt there anymore and they will want to earn $$$

And thats the difference. Sky dont have the luxary to just keep putting fights on PPV as the perception it gives to the customer is that more and more fights are going on PPV when they are not big fights. People have to remember that the subscriber expects to get a certain amount of content for his money.

Say for instance Khan v Judah did 80,000 buys. Now Sky would be happy with that but there are operating a totally different business to what Primetime is. Sky have to be very careful with that goes on PPV now and this is why they clearly told Khan that Judah or Bradley wasnt going to be on PPV.

Khans team are just tunnel visioned. If they wants the McCloskey fight to be PPV all they needed to do was have a semi decent undercard which they failed to do. If they wanted the Judah fight to be PPV they needed to do the fight in September, again with a decent undercard, and not 3 weeks after Haye vs Klitscko.

Sky would be in the Amir Khan business if they felt Khans team could deliver value for money to the punter. The card on saturday night did not offer that.

Sky know theres no PPV worthy fights on the horizon that will make decent money. As soon as there is, PPV will be back. Don;t worry about that.

On the face of it, it does sound tunnel visioned but look at it this way, McCloskey undercard was being handled by Hatton promotions, they had a very good undercard until a few fighters pulled out so it is clear where the incompetence lies there.

Secondly once Team Khan know Sky have no interest in Khans fight they can put the fight on 3 weeks after Haye v Klitschko, because if Sky were willing to compromise then so would Team Khan. If Team Khan know that Sky will televise the fight or PPV the fight then changing dates is not hard work, money talks, so the fact that they put the PPV on 3 weeks after the Haye fight is irrelevant.
