Based in Japan, for a large proportion of his early career the then undefeated WBA super-featherweight(and former WBC featherweight) champion fought Juan Carlos Salgado in what was the second defence of his title as a sort of 'going-away present' for his fans in Japan. That express was astonishingly de-railed as the Venezuelan was brutally halted in a round by the unheralded Mexican. After a steady rebuilding process that has seen him make an ascent to the 135lbs division, it seems as though his handlers are finally prepared to put him in with a relatively high ranked opponent. Facing and beating a past best Rocky Juarez and a shot former champ in Jesus Chavez was beneficial to his state of mind, now is time for him to take fights that will enhance whatever legacy he eventually leaves on the sport. One of the sports most aesthetically-pleasing style-wise, there may be question marks surrounding his chin, but not his skillset, which revolves mainly around nimble movement and his quick hands. While the skills he possesses may have been somewhat overstated on his way up, there is a reason why he was touted as highly as he was, and he'll be looking to implement them to the full from now on. In DeMarco he's faced with a fighter who can allow him to flourish when the bell rings. Well known for simply being on the receiving end of one of Edwin Valero's premier performances, Antonio is not anything special. Flattered by a win over a seemingly mentally-unstable(hyperbole, but he did want out for apparently no reason) Anges Adjaho, DeMarco is slow and predictable, with a somewhat shaky defense to boot. He's going to be exposed stylistically by a fighter who simply possesses to much flashiness for him to overcome with his one-paced, one-dimensional way of going to work. I'd expect Linares to box circles around him and cruise to a UD win.
DeMarco's too stiff for me, ok boxer but nothing that will worry the top lightweights out there which is the direction Linares should be heading. Linares seems to be a lot more careful after the Salgado disaster and has been focusing a lot more on his decent boxing skills at 135. I can see him taking the early rounds in this and building up a big lead. Hopefully he'd then go in for the kill, take a few more risks cos DeMarco is not a man likely to punish them. To really get in the mix at the top end of lightweight, I think a resounding stoppage win is important for Linares and I can see him doing so late on in this one
At his peril. It was supposed to happen after Acosta demolished Armando Cordoba, but for whatever reason didn't and Miguel went in with Rios instead.
Fans? Don't think I've ever come across an ardent follower of Jorge, and the only people I've ever seen talk up DeMarco are Valero enthusiasts.
Hi there, I wasn't referring to you Sir. Just those on the General that I had to, ahem, 'put right' over the years (IMO anyway) And yes, it's only those who need to legitimise their opinions on Deadwin that talk Demarco up :yep I admit it was a lazy, half-trolling post: apologies for bringing it to your door Jab19 :good
I know you weren't referring to me, just that I've haven't come across anyone in my time here so far is all. I'm sure Man Flea gave them hell over it though.
Linares may have dodgy whiskers, but i don't think Demarco is good enough to exploit that. Linares 118-110 imo.
Pretty much this really. I think against the kind of fringe world-class guys like DeMarco, Jorge will be able to counteract his iffy chin with his far superior skill-set for the most part, particularly stiff guys lacking numbing power like Tony. He's clearly a very talented fighter, but I can envisage him coming up short against the likes of Rios and Acosta.
Yeah, but Flea Man was a self important, ladyboy loving **** who don't know **** about Bawxin so his opinion didn't count. BoxingGirl made the right choice getting rid of him :good Fightwise I agree Linares will win a fairly wide UD over ADM (solely because Edwin ruined him :deal)
