Floyd has always had poor speech, it fluctuates between him sounding different or just plain stuttering, plus he is older so naturally his voice will have matured / changed I'd certainly hate to see him Punchy, it would be a heartbreaker tbh
With the people saying Floyd may be sick, that's probably a more likely possibility at this stage. I'd probably retract what I said earlier. If it continued months down the road, then I'd be a little worried. And Floyd doesn't get hit much, but he's had 20+ years of sparring and fighting, and everybody's different neurologically. I'd hate to see him like Pernell Whitaker or Sugar Shane one day or even a tiny-bit punchy. It's never nice to see fighters deteriorate in any way.
Some would equate his stuttering to being to slurring/punchy, which is not the case. When he is defensive, he tends to stutter, but when the questions are to his liking no sign of speech impairment. If only he gets to say " *****, *****, *******, ****" and other expletives I see the stuttering vanish. He is desperately trying to hold himself from blurting out words he's so accustomed to saying in front of his entourage.
I think he's just not screaming at the top of his voice trying to sell a fight as "Money" as much. It benefits him to look uninspired and relaxed so that he maintains the image of the top dog once he wins.
I'm not talking about stuttering (which he's always done) or his ability to articulate his thoughts as I posted on a different thread, he crushed Ortiz in that thing but the sheer quality of his voice and the light behind his eyes. I remember when Jones' speech began to slip, too. As someone noted, these slicksters such as Benitez also get punchy. Being defense-first doesn't keep you safe. But maybe I'm wrong and Mayweather is completely fine.
This guy is one of the few boxers to ever get hit. So what would make his speech start to deteriorate? If anybody is going to have brain damage from getting hit so much, it would be Pac. He's more exposed to it then Floyd and that's a fact.
It's because he hangs out with 50 cent all the time. Have you ever heard Curtis Jackson speak? he sounds like he has a roll of quarters in his mouth and is trying to suck on them as he talks.
If you can SEE boxers slurring, you've got sharper eyes than most. Anyway, it's impossible to judge the decline of a voice on one interview. Ali had some clear interviews even when his speech, overall, was in serious decline.

He has always stuttered. So has Holyfield, and Toney. Although with Toney I do see some signs of decline, some people just never had strong vocabularies to begin with. Mayweather Jr does not has a strong vocabulary but he has a very sharp wit. He gets in the audiences head, he gets in the opponents head, he gets into Max's head, that takes a great deal of social intelligence whether or not he understands that he is astute it doesn't matter, he still is.
It's called being 30+. I don't know what you mean by the "light behind his eyes". Jones speech hasn't slipped. Wtf are you talking about? He's giving great broadcasts on HBO. He's one of the best at it. He still makes rap videos. He's probably one of the best speakers in boxing next to Antonio Tarver and George Foreman.
