http://www.mmaconvert.com/2011/07/2...thing-a-little-better-than-fedor-emelianenko/ "On Saturday night I am going to have to fight Fedor a lot differently to how Werdum and Silva did, but I will come up with the same result. I expect the majority of the fight to take place on our feet and in the clinch. Im looking to strike with him as much as possible and to knock him out when the opportunity presents itself. Theres a good chance it will go to the ground, too, and Im fine with that. I can see myself putting him on his back and punishing him Ive always looked at Fedor as a similar fighter to me in many ways, but I consider myself better in most areas. I just feel I do everything a little better than he does. Im better than him in the clinch, and I feel that my striking is more technical and sharper than his Fedors extremely quick for a heavyweight, but I am no heavyweight and I am quick for a light-heavyweight. If anybody can match him for speed and explosiveness, Id like to think that person is me. Ill be much lighter than Fedor on Saturday, and with that comes speed. Fedor wont be able to get away with the things he tries on bigger and slower opponents I dont know what a win over Fedor does for my legacy thats up to the fans and media to decide but it does a lot for my own pride and motivation. I keep taking these big challenges because I believe I can conquer them, and so long as I can keep proving people wrong, Ill be sticking around."
Fedor has better reach knowledge and his throws/trips from the clinch will be the difference here unless Dan can get him pressed up against the cage and maybe use short elbows to damage Fedor's skin
Would hardly expect a guy like Dan to say anything different. He's always been a strange guy mind you. Never seems to have much good to say about anyone else.
I actually got to speak to Henderson about this fight when researching a couple of columns I was doing about Couture-Machida. I think Henderson sees this as one where he can bully Fedor and make it ugly - he described how he thought Couture would beat Machida and it sums up what I expect from him on Saturday: “Guys that smother Machida and don’t let him run around do well,” said Henderson, who believes Couture has the skills to do just that. “(Couture is) as smart as ever and all the experience he’s had definitely helps. He cuts off the ring well and will be able to put him up against the cage and control in the clinch.”
Id be very surprised if Fedor stands and trades with him. I expect him to use his striking to get Hendo to the mat and submit him.
yeah, clinching a sambo technician is usually not very smart. fedor can also probably eat hendos right hands like soft serve ice cream cones too.
Fedor is a better combination puncher, Fedor is better on the mat on top or bottom but the question is, how much did the Silva fight take out of him and where is his mind? If Fedor is 80% as good as in his prime he should handle a MW. Hendo is great but he's not so great as to offset superior skill AND size though with his power there's always a chance. Given Fedor's mandibular strength I think that chance is low, but it exists and with a proper application of mixing the shot/clinch with the overhand it could happen. Bottomline? Fedor becomes the first man to stop Hendo on strikes late in the first or the second. And no, I won't say that Hendo has a Glass Jaw because it's not a reasonable expectation for him to take a monstrous HW puncher's best shots.
Fedor is technically very poor in striking but he is skilled and you need to be a sharp operator to make him pay, even then he has the chin to take it and the power to hurt you - see Arlovski. Many have clinched Fedor but he always go for a trip or throw and always comes off successful or ends up on the ground. Fedor is happy to go to the ground even if he doesn't have the advantage. The one area that I see as the X factor is Fedor is an excellent submission artist and Hendo is a stiff guy, who is poor on the bottom and has been submitted. Fedor is stuck in his ways. He'll come out firing and fight hard wherever the fight goes. I see a Fedor submission and if it doesn't happen then Fedor is not done, he's roasted.
dude wtf is your problem stop ****ing hating on every fighter that has contributed heaps to the world of mma.
i love fedor, i am not hating, i just dont see his career continuing at heavyweight. he could get away with fighting giants in a ring, but he cant do it in a cage. if he cuts i think he will start winning titles again.
Hendo's not getting KO'ed. A prime Wandy couldn't KO him and he brutalised him in their first fight back in PRIDE. Hendo will get subbed Lindland style. Armbar or Kimura in the first round.
