Khans Manager "I believe Sky are coming out of the Pay Per View Buisness"

The problem with PPV is that some fighters, like Khan, see themselves as PPV fighters, which is wrong. There should only be PPV fights, not PPV fighters. Otherwise you end up paying for Khan vs Salita or Haye vs Ruiz. I'm not doubting Khan's ability or his status as one of the best boxers around, but it should be the fight itself which is PPV worthy.

A PPV should at least be a massive fight a la Haye Klitschko where nobody cares about the undercard. The same will happen if Mayweather Pacquiao happens, i won't mind forking out 15 quid even if it's a crap undercard. Alternatively it should consist of several well-matched championship bouts, a bit like the Magnificent 7.

 

Haye vs Harrison and Haye vs Wlad were the last straw for Sky PPV it looks like.

It was sky who pushed for those fights!

The company simply wants to scale back PPV in the recession, which is very sensible.

 

I doubt Sky will get rid of PPV completely. A company that is used to screwing its customers to line its own pockets wont say goodbye to a cash cow. They may review which fights to air PPV but they wont get rid of it completely.

After so many flunks Sky must be sick of disgraces like Harrison and Haye.

Morales Barrios, Maidana Guerrero and Prescott McCloskey need to all play out before we know Khans next opponent.

Sky have announced a deal to show Formula 1 from 2012-2018. So more funding gone elsewhere.

Signs not looking good for boxing, but i hope im proved wrong and they still end up showing more boxing on normal sky sports. Cant see it happening though.

 

i detest paying for PPV,the odd fight i will,if i really wanna see it,even then i detest paying for it.
i pay over £50 a month for sky plus my fooking tv licence,its daylight robbery,and to charge extra for khan salita/***an even judah,or haye harrison,groves/degale is,again,daylight robbery:nono
they would get paid enough just on normal sky,its just greed:deal

Because they’re not good fights, the coverage is generally weak and why would I pay £15 when I can go to the pub and see it for the price of a pint. Oh and I get to check out the fine young *****.

Couple of things wrong with this post. Hatton Promotions were dealing with the undercard - one which was all set up and Sky were happy with. It was only when fighters began pulling out with injuries, that it crumbled and Sky pulled the PPV plug. This was out of Team Khan's hands. Spot of bad luck.

And with the other thing, they needed a fight before August, because of the month away that Khan will spend fasting. No way could he have made a September fight. The July date was good to keep up their desire to have Khan fighting 3 times a year.

 

Can't remember the fighters involved, but I do remember Team Khan refusing to stump up enough money to bring over a viable replacement to keep the undercard up to scratch.

To say it was out of their hands is wrong.

 

Oh ok, I must have missed the Rahman thing then. In which case, yes, if they didn't do enough to put up suitable replacements, then it was in their hands. Although I imagine it would have been pretty difficult to do so, at last minute?
