Formula1 is now going to Sky. Whats the impact on boxing?

This is superb news. I havn't got Sky!!!:happy:happy

 

I'm not sure that this will happen in the end. Big companies in F1 (e.g. Mercedes, FIAT/Ferrari) and their advertisers want their cars/advertising hoardings seen by as many people as possible.

A race on the BBC will get millions of viewers, one on SKY will get hundreds of thousands I'd guess. F1 is primarily a European sport and they want as many people as possible in Europe to see it, moving to Pay TV will slowly kill the sport.

There were rumours that F1 was going to be sold to News Corp a few months ago, perhaps this is part of the same thing.

Still, News Corp could bring a different slant to the coverage.

It will be bad for Boxing on SKY, it will be bad for F1 "If you want to watch the race, press the red button as we're staying at Ewood Park for the first part of Super Sunday. We'll be back with the team news from Blackburn versus Stoke after the break." Boxing won't have a renaissance on BBC either. With the right wing press getting even more strident about the amount of money the BBC spends, there's no way a DG agrees to spend money on Boxing after their Audley fiasco.

Bad news for F1 fans, but also for Boxing fans and I'd guess some other 'minority' sports.

 

No, I think you're right and I'm being a spaz. I am too ****ing tired, clearly. I need to offer a half-hearted apology to the guy I insulted. Only the unhealthy half of my heart though.

 

It will last a year or two on Sky and then come back...

 

Sky did PPV F1 before which didnt last. This however will be very popular and drive subs. I dont watch it but loads of people do and it it means they need to subscribe to see all the races they will.

Virgin have a better box but as I have said to virgin reps a box is nothing without content and Virgin cant compete with the amount of HD content that Sky has.

 

Who the **** wants to watch F1.

 

F1 is better on the BBC, Sky will probably start showing more darts and fish-o-mania to make up the gaps in its schedule.

 

F1 is absolutely garbage, cars going round a track all day with very very little overtaking, not exactly my idea of fun.

 

If I was Sky I would stick it on SS3 as Virgin only has SS1 & SS2 in HD.

Sky wouldnt of done this if they didnt believe it would drive Subscriptions. I aint sure it means less money for boxing though.

 

Don't think It will affect SKY's Boxing coverage TBH I'm very surprised SKY have gone back in to the F1 business didn't the last time they covered F1 end miserably for them.

That was a crazy business model where they actually believed there was enough idiots who would watch F1 on PPV. I remember when they announced it and thought they were insane to think it would work.

This is different and I think it will work for them. There are enough people out there who watch every F1 race and the 50% from the BBC wont be enough.

 

guess you havnt seen f1 lately.....loads of overtaking....

but ill be fair Q3 thats qualifying part 3 the final shoot out for none f1 fans is the most exiting part of the whole F1 weekend imo.
