Why is ortiz suddenly a beast and actually a threat to mayweather??

Real answer: because it fits the agenda of fans and promoters to believe or pretend that he is. Don't get me wrong, Ortiz fought beautifully against Berto, but the real reasons that people are reacting this way is because:

    1. Floyd fans get to dance about the fact that their guy is taking on "a young, hungry lion coming off a big win". (Nevermind that a fight or two ago their biggest complaint with Pacquiao was that he could only beat flat-footed sluggers and brawlers, and now Floyd is getting props from them for fighting a flat-footed brawler). The more they pump up Ortiz, the more significant it becomes and the more they get an advantage in the eternal dick waving contest with Pac fans and Floyd haters.

    2. Floyd haters desperately want to believe that anyone stepping into the ring with Floyd has some kind of legit threat to beat him. They want to see it happen so bad they'll latch onto any opponent and come up with a half-baked reason of why this guy is a threat. (Pretty much the only threat for Floyd in this fight is if he simultaneously gets old overnight and Ortiz fights like a beast again).

    3. The promoters are selling him as a threat because they have to in order to sell the fight.

Like it or not, those are the real reasons.

    Yep.

It's frustrating to look around and see how people are actually taking this fight seriously, but I suppose it's inevitable in this sport.

Its funny reading pacturds responses. 1. Team Pac wouldn't dare fight Ortiz right now. No denying that. 2. Ortiz at this point ****s up JMM. No denying that as well. Floyd obviously took the bigger challenge . Stop hating and enjoy what will be a great night of boxing on Sep. 17. It will be a better event than Manny's fight with yet another old man just wanting a pay check.

yet it's funny how you joyboys say floyd is taking a "young hungry lion" yet you would say floyd would destroy this kid. ortiz was more like an in-house GBP "green sacrificial lamb" for floyd more than a lion. he struggled against peterson just two fights ago and even was knockdowned twice against an overhyped berto.

Ortiz is suddenly a beast because when Mayweather beats him in a few months, he can say he beat a beast. Ortiz is good, but not ready for Floyd right now. I honestly don't think this fight hurts Ortiz much in the long run. He will probably go 12 with Floyd and get some good experience and come out of it a better fighter. Good fight for Victor.

Yeah he sucks, ask all the *******s...he sucks because he's fighting PBF, while Pac fights another over the hill has been. I love JMM but at his age, and at this weight, he's not a threat. PBF more than demonstrated this, it's dumb as **** that peopel are shitting on Oritz.

Well Manny could have taken a fight with him, instead he elected to fight a 40 year old man who fights two weight divisions below him. I would love to see Manny fight Ortiz...or Berto...or Mike Jones. Not to say he wouldn't beat them, but I'd like to see it, as opposed to fighting guys who are 3-5 years removed from their "best" performances.

Floyd will destroy him alrite and probably make him look stupid as well if ortiz gets too aggressive, the only chance he has is a very lucky shot

But its still a decent fight simply because ortiz has power but if floyd starts hurting him he may look for a way to bail out, like he says himself he doesnt deserve to take too many hard shots!

Most people think the jmm fight is a good fight, history there, jmm is not 40 for a few years yet and were you not impressed by the juan and katsidis victories in 2010 or do you just not like pac?

How about the argument pac doesnt do well against great counter punchers and jmm has his number, hes ducking jmm etc etc, cant have things every way

Whos number 4 on the ring p4p list? jmm is

The only problem is jmm is a lightweight and that is a bit of a problem but pac is not that much bigger than him

you might be right but when i think of this fight i cant help but see things in ortiz's favour. first off ortiz was very underrated as a fighter going into the berto fight. he had knocked down nearly all his previous opponents before maidana. the maidana fight he went in slugging and came out second, what people forget is he knocked marcos down 3 times in that fight which has never come close to happening to maidana...if they fought now, he would win imo. against peterson he got an early KD and rushed things trying to knock him out. but over all that was a very poor performance by ortiz, which i imagine is down to being too big for the weight

looking at mayweather, its true his style is all wrong for ortiz but mayweather doesn't have the power or work rate to really keep ortiz off of him. he's a potshotter from the outside so he won't set ortiz off his rhythm, so will have to be 100% with his defence.

mayweathers last opponents are mosley, marquez, hatton and dela hoya. not one under 30 with all the nessesary tools like speed, power, stamina and hunger.

ortiz has proven he has all of those things in the berto fight, he will come at mayweather and look for the knock out. floyd was rocked by mosley in the first but shane didn't have the strength and will to finish him off. i have a feeling if he can land that one big shot ortiz might have the finishing ability to stop him early.
