School me: Scott Harrison

Would have been 6 if the Wayne McCullough fight had been stopped. Wayne took an frightful beating in that fight. So much so that he had to have his ear lanced at the end of the fight because the swelling was so bad.

 

Yeah i was trying to remember this fight. I knew it was one sided but that sounds like a proper beatdown. Just the way Scott liked things.

 

It wasn't even competitive from the start. Harrison looked like a welter and Wayne looked like a bantam in there. Everything Wayne landed which wasn't much Harrison just shrugged off. Wayne was turned into a punching bag for the entire 12 rounds. I know Wayne prided himself on his chin but that beating was sadistic. And if his lecherous wife had any common-sense and humanity she would have implored his corner to throw in the towel and saved her husband from his own stupidity.
Wayne was lucky not to come away with permanent damage from that. Met him last year at the UFC Expo in Earls Court. Top bloke. Not one of those UFC goons even recognised him.

 

Thing is Scurla, Scott WASNT at all limited, he just chose to impose his will and size. Scott could really box beautifully. Excellent jab, timing, footwork and heavy right cross. Excellent body puncher too.
Check him out v Boom Boom and THP, before he really peaked physically. People were ironically more worried about his lack of ko power than his boxing.
He was an incredible athlete at his peak:deal

 

I agree about McCulloch fight, and makke no mistake of how brave Wayne was that night. He took a tanking, Scott was superior in every department, and was from 1st bell to last. Its the worst 12 round hiding I can remember and even the very pro Harrison crowd at the Braehead were hoping it would be brought to an early conclusion by the ref/McCullochs corner.

 

Wayne collapsed in his dressing room afterwards. Fairly sure he got ambulanced to hospital.

 

Me and Dunky went at this many a time on here when Harrison was still fighting and for me he was. He wasn't particularly quick. Wasn't much of a puncher despite being a brawler. Did possess a sound chin though. And although being massive for the weight wasn't athletically blessed. But he made up for all of that with his sheer toughness and will.
And he destroyed Boom Boom. But by the time he fought him Johnson was a shell of his former self. Likewise the same for Patterson.

 

Hardly surprising. He had a giant haematoma on his ear.

 

He wasnt particularly quick agreed, but timing and jab offsets quickness. Would have loved to have seen him v Morales and Barrera, my feeling is he'd have fallen just short, but he was a puncher, just not a single blow knockout puncher.
McCulloch said he hit harder than Morales and up there with Hamed. He was every bit as athletic as Barrera/Morales etc. Superfit and stronger than either of them IMO.

 

I would have really fancied Harrison's chances vs Morales. Remember what InJin Chi did to Morales? He beat him up and turned his eye in a grotesque golf ball. I think Harrison would have gone one better and got a very close decision.

 

Good point about the Chi fight, he was hard as nails too, and more limited than Scott. Harrison v Chi would have been awesome.

 

Nah, Scott was a very good fighter, cant imagine him beating Morales though.

 

They could have held that in a phone booth and it wouldn't have been small enough. Neither man ever took a step back. Both would have pummelled each other until one man could stand no more.

 

See you'll get people saying Harrison was just a come-forward brawler. He actually had solid fundamentals and used them well to pressure, and impose his size and strength. Maybe not aesthetically good to watch but he was very effective at it.

The one thing that amazes me with Harrison is how good he was early on his career, it was like from his first few fights he was a world class boxer.

 

Yes we tried to get a phone box in Glasgow for that one but they were all to big ha ha What a fight that would have been
