I would have came in long ago to debate, but as the thread starter didnt welcome my opinion on the subject I thought I would keep out of things & respect his wishes. just popped into say though that I remember our debates well my old Brit ESB legend sparring partner, & now that the blinkers are off & time has passed, I can see it from your side a wee bit more... Apologies to the thread starter again for intruding, however I did respect your wishes and refrained from debating, I will do anything to get a vote at the prestigious brit ESB poster of the year awards 2011
Good to see you Dunk. Not many of us old timers left from the old Brit forum. Then again i don't think you go that far back do you? Was you part of the Seconds out exodus to ESB in early 2000?
He was a good world class fighter, just not in the class of the great Mexicans and had a lucky result against Polo. Very strong, I think that pretty much sums up what he was about in a word. Not much else to get too excited about, he had an iron will, chin and strength.
Nah, Im not as old skool as that Scurla, landed here in 2004 as a mad Scott Harrison fan when the forum was empty apart from guys like you, but I just liked the look of the place, & the novelty at the time that I could go onto the general forum & talk about Scott Harrison to overseas boxing fans? It blew me away!(sad, but true) So I was quite happy posting about Scott Harrison on the brit forum, & as he was so hated back then, & with Ricky Hatton being around, the mix was explosive! You had the dour scotsman & the loveable englander, & this place simply grew into a monster of a forum with legendary arguments that cant be topped nowadays, as guys like Ricky Burns & Carl Froch, although great in their own right, dont carry the charisma of Hatton & Harrison. Love 'em or hate 'em, they made brit ESB the place it is today, thanks to all of us arguing to the death over them! Just off the top of my head mind, cos there was plenty much more going on, but Hatton & Harrison were the two biggest fighters north & south of the border in years, a great time to be part of this place! & it showed, as its now the no1 brit forum on the planet. Having said that, it aint what it used to be! But thats for another argument:hey
It was a joke, Dunky. Sorry if you took it seriously. As a fellow Scot I more than welcome your opinion on Scott.
Did Harrison ever chase a fight with one of the three Mexican greats who were champions at 126 around the same time as Scott?
Supposedly the match against JMM had been made, Boxrec even had it as on, with a date set. Never happened though, strangely at the same time Scott started becoming a bit of a 'maverick' i.e a lunatic. Billy Nelson is here, so if anything I am saying isnt the truth? Im sure he will cut me down!
He wanted it especially after beating Kebede there was fair bit of talk about it happening somewhere down the line. From the Herald..
Thanks lads for the info, interesting stuff. Its a pity that these talks never led to anything ending up in the ring. Harrison against any of the three Mexicans would have been very exciting fights, and although I think Harrison would lose to all three, he wouldnt be out of his depth at all and would give all three very tough fights.
Strangely enough, its the Marquez fight that intrigues me the most as if there was one guy who could out-tough Scott harrison? It was probably that **** drinking madman! Although I laugh now? Im still hurting that the fight didnt happen. used to be angry, but now simply hurting.
How do ye think he would of going against Guzman if it did happen when it was supposed to ? Of course Guzman is very tricky but like its been said, Harrison was a beast at FW and could of caught up with him late in the fight.
:good No Probs It was a shame and i think he got a bit disillusioned but the hanging around. I think he was chomping at the bit to get over to U.S and trade with the Mexican legends. He must of craved the chance to fight in Las Vegas, everything he would of worked for as a kid. As i quoted earlier in this thread Maloney as he steps out of ring ''2 more England then America''. I think Scott didn't want that he was a true champion and wanted the best. I used to watch his fights thinking of how he'd do with them guys and on his night he would of gave them all they can handle and more!!! All of them would of felt Scott's power & strength that's for sure. He would of had to had to think a bit more about his work against them guys. You could see against most of his opponents it was like ''ah **** it, i cannae be asked with this. i'm gonna just walk through ya pal!'' But that goes to show how good he was. 5 stoppages in his 10 defence's and as Scurla rightly said should of been 6.
Yeah id agree, Scott would make them earn every penny they were paid that night:deal Tbh I think their superior level of skill is what would earn them the win against Harrison. He was more predictable than they were and his offense wasnt as varied.
I don't think Scott could have been stopped at his weight, except on cuts. Could easily take a shot to give one out. You could see in the hussein fight he was done though, IMO. A few years previous and he'd have leathered hussein 'abelyan' style.
