So imagine he gets the nod in the spinks rematch first of all. I personally think at this point he still retires in disgust, taking his championship with him.

He still loses to tyson and holyfield imo, nothing there changes.

But then he gets the nod vs mccall, does he follow the foreman path and go into the abyss, or does he rematch tyson and holy, does he give lewis a shot at the belt? Does he enhance his legacy and go down as the goat or does he suffer career ending defeats?

If Holmes had better judges, he wins the rematch in the Spinks fight. After that, I think Holmes retires for a while. Larry was always about the money. When the public interest and money was high enough, I think he would comeback to fight Tyson. I thought McCall did enough to be Holmes, though Holmes had his moments. In the end, Holmes just was not active enough in the later rounds to get the nod over McCall.

Yes people wanted the circus show that was the two dinosaurs.

With the belt I think lewis/tyson definitely get a shot but i'm not convinced that larry would fight them.

@the newbie who posted just above, I can't take that post seriously.

Holmes already did get a biased gift decision VS Timmy Witherspoon.

With 'better judges' [more corrupt judges] Holmes could win BOTH Spinks fights.

I haven't yet seen larry v spoon so can't comment other than to say it's a win for now.

He didn't beat spinks the first time, that was a great victory by the jinx.

similar fight path just more to gloat about. The difference is that had Larry been more successful, Foreman might have decided to fight him just because Larry would have been more legit. I think Foreman declined to fight Larry because a loss to Larry at that point (who was near George's age) would have hurt the Foreman legacy more than a loss to a Shannon Briggs type.

Larry was one of the most egocentric guys around. I think he would have always continued to fight.

Spinks deserved the nod in the first one. A real sleep inducing one. One of the most boring big fights I've ever seen.
Holmes should definitely have got the nod in the return.

Holmes was robbed in the re-match against Spinks but lucked out to get the decision against Witherspoon and had a couple of other close calls so I don't think he can count himself unlucky when he went to the scorecards. Larry would have retired anyway post Spinks II, then came back and lost vs Tyson. If he got the nod against McCall I think he would have pursued a fight against Foreman or perhaps might have fancied he could defeat an older, post prison Tyson at some point.

If he had fair judges he'd have been given the decision he deserved in the Spinks rematch and he would've gotten the decision he deserved in the Brian Nielsen fight.

Some people have mentioned the McCall fight but I agree with the judges in that fight. I had it for McCall by one point. Had Larry gotten the decision he'd have still actively sought a fight with George Foreman, or he'd have fought Lennox Lewis. He called out and wanted to fight Lennox in the mid to late 90s too.

larry still woulda lost the first spinks fight.........but won the rematch/ by 1986 he woulda had to deal with trevor berbick...mike tyson...pinklon thomas...mitch green....shot gerrie coetzee....tim witherspoon....tony tubbs.......at age 36 not too sure larry had the desire anymore....

Absolutely, horrible commentary on Holmes-Witherspoon. Holmes clearly won that fight. When Holmes landed cleanly (and he did often enough) the commentators didn't even acknowledge it. But when the Spoon landed they were all oohs and ahhs.
