Close fight. If Hagler fought an aggressive fight and bullied Robinson with strenght I would expect him to take a close UD. But if he fought a more tentative like he did against Leonard and Duran I actually think SRR would school him. Although I'm sure he would bully Ray.
Hagler at his aggressive best would be hard to beat. It was hard to get Hagler to that frenzied style, but Hearns managed to get him upset enough to do it. It worked in Hagler's favor.
Even though Ray was past his best by the time he fought at 160, he'd beat Hagler . A fight like this comes down to one great fighter exposing the other great fighters vulnerability, as subtle as that weakness may be to an ordinary fighter. At this level, which is the very top level , Hagler eventually gets picked apart and stopped late. Robinson would surely know he was in a fight, but prevails after an epic struggle. Hagler was great, but is beatable among the other greats. A former welterweight comes back after a three year layoff to beat Marvin. Think anything like that would EVER happen to Sugar Ray Robinson?
don't think that the Hagler of 1987 was the Hagler of 1982-1985. Different fighter. He should not have been inactive after the Hearns fight. But he was, and he fought Mugabi after a year and then is inactive for another year. Just was not something he should have done.
Lets make one thing clear. Neither one would get stopped. Both guys chins are up there with the best of all time. It would be a close fight either way.
In Fightnight I win with SRR over Hagler every time by a brutal KO. Somehow in real life I doubt it would play out that way lol. BUT, SRR wins a unanimous and very tough decision IMO. It would be a very exciting fight as SRR was not afraid to let his hands go by any means, when you match that up with Hagler, you get fireworks.
