Should the referee be given the discretion to automatically stop a fight after a brutal knockdown even if a guy looks to be out cold, or should there be a flat out rule that referees have to count to 8 or 10 regardless of what has happened?

I'll give my reasoning after I hear from a lot of you guys.

why be a rule to count to 8-10? Usually they want the doctor in the ring to check him out quickly if he is knocked cold.

The percentage of fighters being knocked out cold is low. Re-read post#1. Answer the whole question, not just part of the question.

"Time to recuperate" are words that fighters want time to be able to have. They aren't asking a lot and are giving a whole lot more. How many times has counting to 10 killed a man if he wasn't dead already?

Agreed. Fights should go to their natural conclusion, which, in the old days, included a full ten count.:yep

its not just about death, if the fighter is unconsious the airway could be blocked, every second of hypoxia can lead to increased brain damage, also if a neck is broken it needs to be supported asap..

you mean: when pac knocked hatton spark out, the ref should have stood there & counted to 10 rather than calling in the doctor immediately?

**** off. do you want to see people end up with brain damage or worse? it's a dangerous enough sport as it is.

Some of you have answered the question, and some of you haven't. If you're going to talk about the unconscious fighter, talk about the fighter who is NOT knocked out cold.

If a guy is ktfo a full count isn't necessary.

the referee should have the discretion to stop the fight for the fighter's safety at any time...

if it is obvious a fighter cannot continue then the ref should not be forced to count to 10.

    does that answer your question?
