With the latest making of a farce of a fight between canelo
and alfonso gomez, it seems to me that with the exception
of the Khan/ Judah fight HBO continuosly makes fights that don't
matter as much to dedicated boxing fans. HBO is showcasing ticket
sellers that are b level fighters at best and not matching them with
the best in the division, while showtime championship boxing seems to
want to show important legacy building fights. Thus the casual armchair
network is HBO, and Showtime has now become the network for GREAT
fights. I'm not saying HBO never shows Great fights, but not nearly at
the frequency that showtime has been.

I kinda agree. All are good exciting fights but we already know who is going to win.

Love what showtime did with the Super 6. But HBO is still #1 for boxing. They are going to have to step up their game though if they want to stay there.

Has HBO signed either of the Kbros to a multifight deal.

Seems to me that adding the brothers would be the gamechanger for either network.

It's because, for the last god knows how many years, HBO has only been interested in manufacturing superstars, as opposed to letting them develop naturally. They would rather take a guy like Berto or Alexander, let him fight once a year for 1.2 mil against a nobody like Hernandez, and either blow him out early, or put on a stinker of a fight, instead of pitting two exciting fighters in the ring with one another.

HBO puts on better fights by far..

This year however, it has been pretty close.

I believe the last time Wladimir was featured on HBO before the Haye fight was Ibragimov. They are going to feature the Vitali/Adamek fight on regular HBO.

HBO has the budget to throw around and sign the big stars of boxing, even when they aren't fighting huge competition. Showtime has to show fights that would appeal to the hardcore boxing fan/be major FOTY contenders, otherwise they'd get stomped.

Ironically Kelllerman and Lampley prove your point. Kellerman criticizes a prospect for being 'too boring' and than is all over his nuts when he knocks the guy out. We may not see this so called 'prospect' in the ring again for 10 months! Real natural development there...

Then Kellerman and Lampley go on to literally whine about all the potential exciting fights that aren't being made. Come on HBO... we see it AND hear it.

HBO has gotten burned by quite a few prospects the last few years, guys who looked great but didn't pan out. **** like that happens.

Remember after Pac/Mosley was announced on Showtime PPV. Everybody cancelled HBO and made post after post about "Showtime is taking over the sport!", "Showtime is going to overthrow HBO's monopoly!", and "Showtime will host the better fights from now on!" They should feel like complete, complete idiots and I hope you did cancel your HBO.

Showtime (minus ShoBox) has better fights per fight, but it is not head and shoulders above HBO and they do not broadcast nearly enough fights (once again, minus ShoBox) to make them superior or more relevant to boxing than HBO.

Showtime does too many one fight broadcasts. Look at what is to come on the networks...
    Shotime:
    Aug. 6- Pavlik vs. Cunningham
    Aug. 13- Agbeko vs. Mares
    Sep. 30- Olusegun vs. Chebah
    Oct. 29- Ward vs. Froch
    HBO:
Aug. 27- Guerrero vs. Maidana & Mitchell vs. TBA
Sep. 3- Zaveck vs. Berto & Russell Jr. vs. TBA
Sep. 10- Klitschko vs. Adamek & Gamboa vs. Ponce de Leon
Sep. 17- Mayweather vs. Ortiz PPV
Oct. 1- Martinez vs. Barker & Lee vs. Vera II
Oct. 15- Hopkins vs. Dawson PPV

Unfortunately, Showtime is but second fiddle...

They showed Thompson and Rahman fights after Iggy. Chagaev, Chambers and Peter 2 were off.
