I use the term ''world'' loosely, but he still will have gotten further than any previous coasta Rican fighter:thumbsup Odd that a country that borders such boxing rich lands like Nicaragua and Panama has no long standing tradition of very good fighters:think
Yeah, with Ward, Froch, Bute, Kessler in the division I think distinguishing in quality in between the regular WBA title and the interim WBA title at 168 is not worth the effort.
You know I never really think of a WBA interim title and ordinary title as a real world title anymore, I think of it as an eliminator for a shot at the title, which in theory it kind of is:good Helps me feel better about it anyways
I like Magee, but he is now about as exemplary a paper champion as you'll ever find. That effort against that opponent isn't worthy of climbing up so much as one spot in any decent set of rankings. For it to carry that prize is just...there aren't words.
In fairness he was the mandatory challenger for the WBA belt when he took the fight for the IBF title against Bute, fortunately for Magee the WBA didn't take it personally and Pat worked his magic. Poor performance all the same but a comprehensive enough victory. How his opponent got a shot at the title is a bit of a joke. The WBA is obviously trying to make in roads into Costa Rica or something.? A fight like this definately cheapens the title but I'm happy for Brian.
