Foster has more range than Monzon, coupled with too much power. Hard for me to see how Monzon survives.

    Early/late? Competitive/one-sided?

Its really impossible to say how Monzon handles the move up, too many unknowns, he might handle it fine or he might get bullied losing his usual advantages. He may have to make stylistic changes, which maybe he could or couldn't.

I don't like Monzon's chances with Foster, to be honest..I never have when this thread topic comes up. Monzon and Hagler both knew their limitations and stayed in the 160 class..and wisely so, IMO. Foster was a natural at 175, but didn't have the same discretion as Monzon and Hagler..and paid the consequences in his ill-fated forays in the heavyweight division.

A competitive fight with Monzon looking good until he gets knockout in the mid rounds.

Foster would dictate with his long snapping jab and ever present enormous power. Easy decision or a mid to late round stoppage.

Foster stops Monzon in '72 at 175............. Monzon strained to make 160, but he could hang at 168---if the division was there back then.... 175 was possible for the big Monzon, but not against Foster......

agreed. and i also see it being one of the most boring possible matchups. just don't think their respective styles would mesh well together :!:

middleweight gets by Foster..ever. Foster proved vs Tiger...one of the sturdiest ex-middles of all time.... what he could do. This would include LaMotta and Hagler as well.

Yes, Foster doesn't lose to a natural 160 pounder from any goddamn era....

The only MW we have footage of that i'd give a shot at Foster is Hopkins, weirdly enough.
