Round 1

Marroquin is sharp shooting with his jab while stepping around Beranza. Very smooth and calculated work from Marroquin, hurrying nothing as he puts hook and overhand combos together behind his jab. Beranza takes leftward steps as he digs double and triple hooks up high at the head of Marroquin, mostly getting smacked aside by the back of Marroquin's wrist. Beranza is having some success as he starts to circle left and paw with a straight jab into Marroquin's chest before quickly dropping the left hand down for a sneaky hook to the body.

Round 2

Marroquin is putting together quick combos as he leans off to his left above the waist, hooking up with the left and following with guillotine overhand rights. Beranza keeps pushing his arms out in straight lines, just plugging away where he can and making most of his contact with Marroquin's gloves and elbows. Beranza is still able to sneak in a few hooks to both the head and body by changing up his pattern of attack very abruptly and utilizing short leaps off to the side, making up for the greater athleticism and sharpness of the more youthful boxer. Marroquin is blocking most of Beranza's jabs and becoming more mindful of the hook. Good counter right hand by Marroquin, flying past Beranza's jab and crunching his nose. Good steady pace by both.

Round 3

Beranza is working that left hook repeatedly, skating around Marroquin and getting touched up with jabs and reaching far out. Marroquin keeps pinpointing his jabs and rights, throwing the latter as an overhand to bring it down to bear on Beranza's face as a straighter cross would just catch his hairline. Beranza is falling short with his own overhand thanks to his lesser reach, height and speed. Flash knockdown scored by Marroquin on the target circumnavigating him using a perfectly timed right, and Beranza bounces back up. Marroquin lands a solid 1-2 throughout the rest of the round, with Beranza looking perfectly clear headed.

Round 4

Marroquin is working the jab, very precise but lacking urgency. Lots of lateral movement without many backward steps and a regular flow of double jabs with every other step. Beranza is putting up a high guard and trying to peck and bash his way in with jabs and overhand rights. Nice counter uppercut by Marroquin as the veteran is swarming in, knocks out Beranza's mouthpiece. Beranza reaches out with some stiff jabs and hard but easily spotted rainbow rights. Marroquin defends to ride out the round.

Round 5

Beranza comes waving his arms at Marroquin, persistent but inaccurate. Marroquin hops around him on his toes, popping out jabs and overhand rights and just beating Beranza to the punch every time. Now Marroquin stays in the pocket a bit more and gets his upper lip scrubbed with a left hook and a thudding right behind it as Beranza falls into him with his full weight behind both fists. Another hook lands for Beranza. Marroquin steps back outside and starts taking long shots to the body with his right. Marroquin is hopping around on his toes, making Beranza lunge and barely miss. Several straight punches by Beranza leave him finishing the round empty handed.

Decent round for Beranza though.

 

Round 6

Beranza misses a few double and triple hook arrangements and sees his right hand crash into Marroquin's waiting palm. Good fast body shots by Marroquin. Now some right hands to the face while backing up. Beranza keeps coming. Very quick flurry to the body by Marroquin, but turning his shots around with force rather than shoe-shining. Marroquin bobs and body feints, getting Beranza to come lunging in and BAM! Counter uppercut. Beranza dropped again. Beranza is shaken this time. Not much time left in the round. They trade toe to toe.

Round 7

Marroquin is throwing long jabs while drifting off to his left at a diagonal slant, moving slightly backwards to make Beranza lunge in and further compound his reach disadvantage. Marroquin is landing the counter jab past Beranza's lead right. Beranza is still giving an honest effort, rushing in and hooking up at the taller man. Marroquin ducks while passing by and Beranza pushes down at his back before blasting him with a few rabbit punches. Marroquin is only slightly hurt. Beranza lands a right while Marroquin is clearing the cobwebs. They circle and fire jabs at each other, Marroquin's longer and sharper. Mouthpiece out for Beranza for the second time. After it is replaced the referee makes the corner do it over again, as it was upside down. It's taking forever. :blood Seriously an entire minute devoted to this. Weird. It was backwards after they put it right side up! atsch Only 16 seconds left in the round, pretty anticlimactic. Combo by Marroquin over a stiff but slow Beranza jab.
