In some ways i'm regretting that i stayed up for it! Magee outclassed him in many ways but Barboza was a messy fighter who made it difficult for magee to score any real clean combinations. Frustrating to watch overall.

Well that was ****ing wonderful, had an accumulator on Wach ko, Tyrone HT/FT vs Roscommon, Cork HT/FT vs Mayo and Magee to ko Barboza......would of netted me €180. But thankfully Magee decided to have one of the most lacklustre performances on his career tonight

I can only guess the humidity and heat got to him, otherwise there's no excuse for such a poor performance against a fighter of that calibre with quite a lot on the line (interim WBA title etc) for Magee. I'm not just saying that cause I could of won money either. Magee is 36 now I suppose, but I thought he looked very good against Bute, to go from that to this ????

I'd be pissed off too, I was thinking from Round 3 that it was likely to go the distance. I reckon he should get another proper world title shot again after that, he look like an easy credible opponent

Well done to Brian Magee on winning the interim title last night. Must feel great for him. Coming to the end of his boxing days. Hopefully this win leads to a couple of big pay days for Magee with a defence of his interim title somewhere in Ireland if possible. How quickly does a full title fight has to happen for Magee? Anyway I expect to see Magee headlining a big fight in Belfast by the end of the year.

A defence of this title in Belfast is a real possibility as Brian has worked with all the top promoters in the past. But maybe Mick Hennessy who is looking headliners for C5 can strike a deal with him. I can see it all now, Rogie V Fury locking horns, and Magee defending his title in another big night at the Odyssey.Well you never know:D

I lost a good few notes on backing the KO but I'm delighted for Brian. Call it lacklustre if you like but he won by a country mile and in that heat whats the point in expending more energy than needed and risking gassing.

Brian Magee defeats Barbosa, wins WBA super middleweight interim title

    July 30th, 2011
By Eric Thomas: Brian Magee (35-4-1, 24 KO’s) defeated 33-year-old Jaime Barboza (17-5, 8 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night to capture the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) World super middleweight title at the Gimnasio Nacional, San Jose, Costa Rica.

Talk about your soft landings. Magee, 36, was taken out by IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute in the 10th round last March in a fight that Magee wasn’t even remotely competitive in. With that kind of a one-sided loss, you would think that it would be at least a year before Magee would be given the opportunity to fight for another title, but here he was fighting for the WBA interim strap tonight. Magee dominated the action against the little known #5 ranked WBA contender Barbosa, using his jab and short body shots to control the action. Barbosa didn’t have the power to crush Magee the way that Bute and Carl Froch did in the past and had to settle with just trying to win round.
With this win, the WBA has now three champions: Andre Ward, Dimitri Sartison and now Magee. What a mess. Only one of them, Ward, is truly worthy of being a champion in my view.

Hopefully Sartison is ordered to fight Magee soon. If they get the fight on in Belfast, he is in with a shout.

If that doesn't come off, what about DeGale on a PPV ****** card.
