First was in the JZ fight. JZ's opponent tapped but Herb didn't see it. JZ would go on to win via SD but it was a pretty big mishap nonetheless.

And second, of course, was in the Fedor fight. When a fighter gets hit, faceplants, eats a couple shots to the back of the head, and then turns around in a matter of seconds, refs usually wait a couple seconds to see if he can continue before stopping the fight. Watching the replays, it almost seems as tho Herb jumped in as soon as Fedor faceplanted and then watched the strikes to the back of the head (which are illegal I might add) and then proceeded to stop the fight.

While the second instance might be controversial, the first one isn't. Missing that tap could've cost JZ the fight.

the stoppage was a reminder of the 2nd tito vs shamrock fight.
if herb didnt jump in when he did fedor would be in intensive care now.

    Get a grip

  9. How about the bloody pulp that JDS made of Carwin, the guy didnt even defend himself for a long time, yet this was allowed to go. It seems that these biased refs are too trigger happy when it comes to Fedor.

Although i would have preferred to have seen Fedor go out Sakuraba style he faced planted and was out cold for a brief fraction of a second. He never saw that punch and was clearly 'cold' and hurt. Fedor almost from the outset was eating punches. Why he never tried to get Henderson to the mat i don't know. Stupid game plan from the outset.

meh. Each ref seems to have their own style of reffing fights. Rosenthal, Mirgliotta seem to give fighters chance to continue while Dean, McCarthy seem to end the fight USUALLY at the right time and are generally considered to be the best refs in the business.

Ironically, in realtime, I think the fight was stopped early. In watching the slow-mo, it seems justified. At any rate, Dean chose to be cautious and stop it, but he still ****ed up big time in the JZ/Green fight.

Yeah, he did that same thing in the Bigfoot fight. Came out swinging punches, looking for the early ko, had no real gameplan in mind, wasn't the calm fighter he used to be, etc.

Really think he should hang it up.

Dean addressed the controversy in the untelevised Cavalcante/Green fight from the undercard during his interview with Ariel Helwani. He claimed Green didn't tap but rather gave him the thumbs up sign. He also said that the choke wasn't locked in properly and that Cavalcante's forearm was around Green's chin.
