A straight yes or no will do, though if you say no then please state why you disagree. :good Tier One - The elite Fedor Emelianenko, Georges St Pierre, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Anderson Silva Tier Two - ATGs Dan Henderson, BJ Penn, Wanderlei Silva, Kazushi Sakuraba, Matt Hughes Tier Three - The Greats Chuck Liddell, Mirko Crocop, Shogun Rua, Rampage Jackson, Randy Couture Tiers Four and onwards - Many, many very good and good fighters. :bbb
I would swap Wanderlei and Liddell. But yes GSP and maybe Silva are there with Fedor and Nogueira now. If Henderson could beat a top lhw and earn a shot at Jones then he would be knocking on the door. Also I'm starting to have doubts on Couture.
Do you really think Rampage and Randy are interchangeable with Hendo and Wandy? Don't see that myself.
No. I'd have Hendo moved one tier up and Liddell and Silva should both be ATG. On a regular rankings list I would have Liddell over Silva because he beat more top competition and his record isn't padded with any straight bums. Also, he beat Silva and though the fight happened too late, it is still indicative of their respective quality because both were shot.
Not sure i can agree with your tier 2. Dan has accomplished way too much in this sport to not be considered a top 10 ATG or even one of the top guys in the sport. Likewise Silva Sakuraba and Hughes were all incredibly significant and dominant fighters in their prime and were all considered to almost unstoppable. Matter of fact there was a time when Sakurba was considered the best fighter in all of MMA.
I think Saku and Hughes stand up was no where near the level to call them elite. And out of the elite list only Nog's stand up is a real weakness when you compare his to the rest in the elite group's skill set imo And on the other side of the coin, Dan really hasnt had a dominant stretch where he was undoubtedly the best in any division he's competed in. But his strength is he's always been in the top 5, but rarely 'the man'
And this is why even though I really wanted to move Hendo up one tier I didn't. It's hard to justify when he was never ranked #1 in any division, though he was just a few punches away from being #1 when he rocked Rampage in the fifth round of their bout and failed to follow up.
Yeah, if he'd taken the strap from either Anderson or Rampage, then his already great legacy would have been improved even more And to clarify my point about Kazushi and Matt, in their fights with stand up fighters like Wandy and GSP 2 and Pele, they were found wanting. Could argue they were both past prime, but only slightly
