He is a good fighter but he is not ready for Floyd. I think this fight does not hurt him at all. He will learn from the fight and get good publicity and it will help his career a lot.

Floyd should have taken on Martinez at 154 or actually tried to make an attempt at negotiating with Pacquiao.

The second has already been done. Pac is cheating. As far as Martinez, thats a good option too. I think Ortiz and Martinez are both good fights.

Floyd is LEVELS above Ortiz and should win this pretty easily.

Can't really hate on the fight too much (except for the fact that it's not Pacquiao), the welterweight scene right now doesn't look particularly good outside of the top 2.

However, no drama here. Outside of a random punchers chance, Ortiz has no chance.

There is only one fight at welterweight.

Ortiz's last two fights have seen him struggle to a draw against a journeyman and put on his ass twice by a hypejob.

Beating someone you are better than you does not mean you are cherrypicking. Ortiz is the best option right now.

Though it's funny people have to start threads like this and defend the honor of their boyfriends at all costs.

Ortiz is a good warm up fight but thats it.HE is below Khan,Bradley and Maidana in terms of ability so if Mayweather did lose dod lose to him it would be humiliating.

i'm not a floyd hater in any way...but if you get outboxed by lamont peterson you have zero ****ing chance against floyd...& floyd will know that. this fight is a horrible mismatch.

In that case, you could argue that you have no chance against Floyd if you get outboxed by anyone considering he's arguably the best boxer on the planet. We all know Ortiz is probably not going to outbox Mayweather. However, Mayweather is 34 and hasn't fought in almost a year and a half. A fast, hard punching Southpaw is not the ideal opponent for the first fight back. However, if Mayweather is still sharp and can weather the storm early, he should win decisively.

He is green on this ****ing level and you know it, sure he has 30 fights however that doesnt make him ready neither how many fights did Chavez Jr have before going in to a title fight?

Keep it ****ing real, he does have fights no doubt, but he doesnt have big fight experience and he is NOT on this level, he is a good fighter but no way is Ortiz able to match anything that a fighter like Mayweather will bring.

This is a solid fight for Floyd no doubt, but lets no pretend that this fight is going to be close in any way.....
Green in terms of big fight experience, in terms of ring level of skills yes Ortiz is too ****ing green for this type of fight...
I am only watching it to see how much that lay off has effected Floyd and if he is showing signs of his own age....

I don't think the fight would be close but what people are suggesting by dismissing ortiz completely is that ortiz is not in floyd's league he will easily get out boxed, yet these are the same people who think margarito and cotto are in floyd's league and they would be competitive. It don't make any sense.

Chavez Jr. had no real amatuer background. Ortiz has a good amateur background and has been a pro for 7 years now. His experience is not the problem in this fight.

Again, if you're going to tell me that Ortiz is simply isn't as good as Mayweather, that's fine. However, to say he's too green is inaccurate in my opinion. He's a 7 year pro with over 30 fights. He's as ready as he's ever going to be all things considered.

Considering Mayweather's age and inactivity, we don't know for sure what's going to happen. If he's still sharp, he should win decisively. However, do you remember how SRL looked against Norris? Leonard was the same age as Mayweather and had a similar stretch of inactivity.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. It almost seems like you're equating lack of skills with being green.

well...yeah...if you get pretty comprehensively outboxed by a distinctly average boxer; you don't have much chance against floyd.

add in that ortiz is pretty green, has shown he's susceptable to getting outboxed, has shown he's pretty easy to hit & has shown a worrying lack of heart...& he's facing floyd in his second ever fight at welterweight...

wtf is floyd doing facing this guy? it is a shocking mismatch.
