According to the Tyson (1995 film) he did. He wasnt fully focused on the Tucker fight coming (he is supposed to have smacked Rooney for prestering him to study tucker)

Anyone know if this story was true. He definitely had a lot of **** on his plate going into the Spinks

The clear erosion of his skills became apparent in 1989

    I tend to think not.

I think he was obsessed with the idea of beating Spinks and becoming the lineal champion.

He saw his entire career as building up to that fight.

The first time I saw him look worse was with Bruno. Sort of with the inactivity. Hagler had the same problem after being inactive after fighting Hearns. Tyson was inactive after Spinks. They both slowed down and were hit more after that.

Tyson's prime really solely existed in quantum terms. It can only been seen in extremely high-tech laboratories.

Yeah, he looked horrible when calmly waiting for the opportunity to exploit William's tendency to drop the right when he jabbed. It took him almost two long minutes to counter the jab with a perfect left hook. Was tragic to watch.:lol::lol:

Why? Tyson clearly improved coming up through the ranks, seeing different styles, unifying the titles, and the pinnacle against his highest profile fight, Spinks. He was undefeated. He started to technically decline after the Spinks fight. Pretty cut and dry really.

i think he started to slide before Green fight then before tucker then before holmes then before tubbs in first round and then in bruno, then in Douglas. Holyfield, lewis.

Your right erosion was a bit strong a word. I meant he stopped doing the things that made him so awesome (head movement and jab). He tended to look for the one shot

Tyson's slide definitely started after the Berbick fight.

Not immediately after, but at some point after.

    Exactly.

Tyson actually looked a lot less technically proficient against Berbick, in which he basically disregarded defense and just swung wildly at the head. If that performance had taken place just prior to Douglas, people would be twisting it into an example of his "decline" as well.

Williams was Tyson's career sparring partner. He had sparred with Williams since before he turned pro. Everyone and their brother knew Williams was susceptible to the lefthook, he had been dropped by it seven times in prior fights. One of the commentators even remarked how open he was leading up to the shot.
Either way, consistency is the measure of a fighters decline, not one fight.

The fight lasted less than a minute and half. You could tell that? Tyson hit Berbick with three and four punch combinations, set his punches up with the jab, but you could tell he was less technically proficient? He didnt even use technique to setup Williams, he waited for him to drop his right and then countered with a lefthook.
