Did Calzaghe Quit so not to risk his "0"??

    It seems to me that Calzaghe quit the sport way early because he knew he would be expected to fight against quality opponents like;
    Pascal, Ward, Froch, Pavlik, Dawson, and other young lions and he was afraid he'd lose his undefeated record?

    He quit b/c he was not in his prime anymore, and his hands were very bad. All those people you mentioned, atleast at 168, he would have beat though.

    One thing people always forget is how he shamelessly ducked Kelly Pavlik back when Pavlik was looking like a monster instead he chose to fight a decaying RJJ and retire.

    You are a pathetic man..
    Calzaghe was 37 years old, had just cleaned the 168 division, beated the man at 175 in his first fight at that weight..
    Had alot money, and a solid legacy (which many is dismissing)..

    When personal attacks begin, you know your opponent is about to be KO'ed.

    If true, then why outside of the UK is his legacy so weak for someone who has supposedly accomplished so much?
    Is it because the world (outside of England) recognizes BS when they see and smell it?
    I'm just asking.

    The best boxing masterclass I think I have ever seen came from this guy. He got dropped in the first and got back up and schooled the guy.......I forget who it was against but that impressed me greatly. The only other person I remember being as impressed with on a skills basis is PBF.

    Pascal - Just got schooled twice by Hopkins
    Froch - Beat by Kessler
    Dawson - Lost to Pascal
    Pavlik - Lost to Hopkins
    Ward - Struggled with Bika

    Seriously there was no one really left for joe to fight, he was getting old and wanted out. dont blame the guy, he was better than any of those fighters you mentioned

    Are you ****ing kidding me? he was after money so Dawson and Froch were not going to get him **** (also high risk low reward) he shamelessly ducked Pavlik and at the time Pavlik was a beast who hadn't even fought Hopkins yet, and while Ward was never a serious contender to fight Joe Calzaghe it's ****ing hilarious you wrote 'struggled with bika' as a reason Calzaghe would have not to fight him :nut, so apparently if you 'struggle' to defeat someone it's as good a loss now :patsch.

    No, he retired because of hand problems and getting old. Not a fan of Joey Slapz, never will be, but that ain't why he retired.

    His dad and trainer was also in Gary Lockets corner when Pavlik made mince meat out of the 'rocket' so it becomes clear as to why Calzaghe ducked Pavlik.

    Wasn't really necessary seeing as he beat Hopkins who made Pavlik look like a slob who won a "Fight Bernard Hopkins" contest on the radio.

    No he wouldn't at all. Bute would have the best chance of the guys at 168, but Ward was not even a factor when Calzaghe retired. The next logical fight would have been Dawson, but as others have said he was old and his hands were like glass.
