Oh, it can be argued and quite well, as you're about to find out. MMA fans, on the whole, are enthused with this ridiculous notion that the game is constantly evolving when it's been pretty even keel for awhile now. Did the game "evolve" from the nineties? Absolutely, the jokes that were fighting in wife beaters and parachute pants rocking mullets would NEVER succeed in today's world of MMA but fighters from the early oughts had success all the way to the last year or so until AGE caught up with them. The evolution of MMA ended when ideas like Harold Howard's "stand-up Jiu-Jitsu" and Jimmerson's one glove boxing gave way to the standard trifecta of disciplines, Muay Thai/Wrestling/BJJ. Once the sport got athletes like Couture, Henderson, Fedor, and Nogueira the evolution was over. We know what works and what doesn't and the only new and novel things you're going to see are from absolute phenoms like Jones and Anderson. And Jones isn't a harbinger of some otherworldly athletic presence that will change the game, he's just a very special individual. Fedor's problem isn't some new breed of outstanding HW because Antonio Silva is as unpolished as they come and Hendo isn't any less of a "bar brawler" than he is. I also find it laughable that you say that Fedor's brawling is what costs him against "professional" fighters when it was his brawling that nearly won the fight for him last night.
:-( He brought the Jui Jitsu aspect back to Karate. Royce Gracie ducked him for a reason [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vaw8t-wOMEA[/ame]
Was fedor always religious or has his new found religion taken away some of his sting? Also there is the question of money, he grew up poor and used to fight the opponent with the thought that they wanted to return him to poverty. With that possibility gone he just doesnt seem the same. His belief system has changed these last years and I believe that is the difference maker here. Some people are saying he is too old because of his diet? What is his diet like? I dont think its physical at all. Its all about his belief IMO.
He's always been religious. I don't understand why fans are trying to dissect this. Fedor is at the end of his career. It's really not any more complicated than that.
