The Offical Poll: Who wins Andre Ward vs Lucian Bute

Ward will make the necessary adjustments IMO. Actually I think Ward is more efficient when he boxes from mid to long range. His inside game proves to be very discouraging for his opponents bc he's skilled, strong as hell and can be dirty too. But when he boxes from mid range he's far more efficient IMO. That's what he did against Bika in the 2nd part of his fight and it is also much more enjoyable to watch. Bute would have the reach advantage no doubt but Ward is quicker on his feet.

Ward does have deceptively quick feet for sure, and doesn't get enough credit for his mid-outside game, but I think Bute's outside game is much better, and his power will keep Ward at that range. Ward doesn't have enough power to cause Bute problems. I think if Ward can't make it an inside fight, Bute win's, and that's exactly what I feel would happen.

Lol!! I'd say Ward power is a bit like Mayweather. It doesn't look like much from the outside but when u ask the opponents they will say afterward that they are deceptively strong. Also I predict Ward to beat Froch in a very impressive performance but I wanna see how he gets it done. Then I'll make a more precise prediction. Will be interesting to see who's the last man standing anyway but the best part is not the result it's the journey!

 

Yeah, the super 6 had some kinks, but in the end it proved to be dope. We basically watched Ward go from a prospect to a budding superstar. Can't wait for the next tourney they come up with.

 

Oh indeed!! The bantamweight tournament was dope too and the last fight will be a good one as well. Props to Showtime and Ken Hershman!! A tournament at LHW could be interesting: Cloud, Pascal, Shumenov, Sillakh, Dawson; Cleverly.

**** that. Why would you guys want another Super 6 style tourney? The Super 6 has been a disaster.Tourneys don't work in boxing, its been proven a few times now, twice on showtime.

That's ur opinion man! But the Super 6 gave us good fights between the top dogs, drama, a classic, prospects who went on to prove themselves, a veteran comeback... What's not to like about it?

Thats part of the problem. Boxers shouldn't be locked into a tourney to make fights that we should see anyway.

Sure, the Super 6 has provided some solid fights but the tourney itself has been a complete failure.

The round robin format especially is horrible for boxing for so many obvious reasons.

 

How is Bute "slick"? His defense is his biggest weakness. Even Jesse Brinkley was landing on him regularly and left his face with some swelling by the end of the fight.

 

Ward will pick his spots and box really smart. It should be competitive but I think Ward has the better fundamentals and better footwork/placement.

 

The only question mark with Ward is his chin.

If Ward's chin holds up he should be able to beat Bute rather easily.

I believe Bute is the better of the 2. Ward's game is based on inside fighting for the most part (but really can fight full and half distance), only Bute has his vicious uppercuts and body shots.

A lot of people here measure Ward's talent on what he did against Kessler and Green. Now the first I understand, but it was clear in that fight that most of the damage was done by headbutts. The Green fight just makes me laugh. First it's Allen Green, second: have you seen that fight?
The fight against AA was more impressive imo, in that one he actually boxed.

Bute hasn't faced a lot of real strong opponents, and is hittable. But he disposes of them in impressive style. And it isn't like his opponents are that bad compared to Ward's. The difference is Kessler and AA, with probably nobody believing AA has anything other as a punchers chance.
That leaves Kessler with whom the negotiations fell through.

We will see soon who wins the tourney and who faces Bute, and I honestly believe Bute is eventually the best of them all.
