Did Calzaghe Quit so not to risk his "0"??

    I can never understand why people continually try and detract from fighters who had highly successful careers, and in the case of Calzaghe did the near impossible and retired 46 and 0.

    He achieved everything he wanted to accomplish and left behind a strong legacy, particularly in British terms.

    His victory over Hopkins continues to appreciate with time, which riles the American's something awful, which is probably why this thread was made, a desperate attempt to discredit Joe.

    He was a great fighter who enjoyed a fine career and right now, should be ranked as the very best Super Middleweight ever in legacy terms.

    That's a good career in anyones book.

    Ward is the only threat and Ward hadn't even broken out internationally bythe time Calzaghe had planned his retirement.

    Because a EU-fighter will NEVER get credit for beating a US-fighter. Its not the world outside of England (Calzaghe Wales) that is the problem, it is US it self. US fighting US in any sport to become world champion says it all :tired, because in which world wide recognize sport is US world champion :huh

    Calzaghe beating Kessler - and Hopkins and Jones away means nothing.

    Hopkins beating Pavlik and Pascal the second time and his a legend.

    Froch beating Taylor away and Pascal is a EU-bum.

    Ward beating Kessler at home makes him a top p4p.....:huh.

    US is bias as hell...........................................:deal

    Froch beat for sure when Taylor gassed out, Froch beat him in the style of Author Abraham.

    Calzaghe lost to Hopkins in the eyes of most unbiased fans and observers.
    But why did Calzaghe wait until Hopkins was so old to make the fight when he could have fought him at prime?
    I don't want to hear that crap about Joe tried to make the fight but couldn't. That's more BS. Sounds like more Frank W risk mitigation. :yep

    I am Scandinavian and I have no problem to acknowlede Calzaghes greatness :D

    Froch and Ward would most likely have been outslapped, which most knowledgable posters here on ESB realize. Dawson and Pascal could have proven to much for a past prime Calzaghe though, with his brittle hands.

    The opposite, actually. There are still people harping on about Hopkins beeing robbed, but most observers agree he was beaten.

    Hopkins ducked him!

    Well, it appears, so far the poll numbers indicate that most ES members believe that Calzaghe pulled a Marciano, and quit before he fought any meaningful names and lost his precious, carefully crafted "0". About 10% of responders believe that Calzaghe's legacy is already Shet and not worth taking seriously.
    I wonder what the ratio of intelligent versus EU responders is?

    The idea that Calzaghe would duck Pavlik is beyond Ludicrous. He would have slapped that lanky alcoholic around the ring for 12 rounds, then shown him how a real man drinks beer without attacking family members.
